HELP GPL voodoo2 drivers

by Capp » Fri, 06 Aug 1999 04:00:00

help!!!

just got a new Skywell Magic Voodoo2 12meg   and am having probs getting
GPL  to work  beyond  leaving the pits.
It keeps locking up just after I put it in gear and try to drive out.

Downloaded the 2.56 drivers and installed them into windows.  Still to
no avail it does the same thing.
Is there something that I am not doing  to get it to run?
Do I have to put a file in the GPL folder?

BTW  it runs Toca2  without any probs and no hardware conflicts (if this
helps)
Never had any probs with the old V1 card

Specs:
Celery 333 O/C  to 416
64 Ram
Skywell Magic Voodoo2 12 megs

You can do 2 things:

1. Get the new Quake3 drivers from http://www.3dfx.com

2. Install the 2.43 glide?.dll files to your GPL folder.  Sorry, I don't
have the link

Jason.

I'm running a Diamond Monster 2 12mb (Voodoo2) with the 2.43 drivers and have
no problems.

The 2.43 drivers in the GPL folder should have fixed your problem.  Don't
expect the latest drivers for your card to work if they are 2.56 because they
have a problem with some command.  This command is fixed in the Quake3
compatible drivers.  As a last resort, install the Quake3 drivers from
http://www.3dfx.com but read the disclaimer first.

Jason.

I have a Diamond 12MB V2 too and experience no problem (anymore) with the latest
3dfx native drivers (glide v2.56).
I don't have any older glide driver installed locally in the GPL folder anymore.

I did experience freezes running GPL but solved it by installing an additional
(chassis)fan (costs: app. US$5) . Really it was a cooling problem!
I suspect the default 3dfx operates the  card at a somewhat higher
clockfrequency which causes the lockup. The diamond shouldn't be overclocked,
leave it at the default 90MHz!
