Sound Everywhere But N2

Sound Everywhere But N2

by R Ri » Sat, 17 May 1997 04:00:00

I've got sound in every application except NASCAR2.  In the set-up
test, my system passes, but when I get to an actual race, I have no
sound.  I even have sound when I load N2 (on the entry screens), but
it's gone when I get to the race.

I'm running win95, and I get the same result when I load N2 under
Windows, or under DOS.  The volume is turned up.

Even though I have speech checked (under the options), I get text
responses from the spotter.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

This may seem stupid, but have you tried the  "NASCAR Racing 2 Sound
Setup" program under the Sierra folder, yet.  The first time I installed
N2, I forgot to set up the sound and had none!

You might want to check in your device manager...what can often happen is ,
you install a program then after that you change your sound card or add a
piece of hardware, if your sound card is configured for automatic settings
then they may be different from those of the prior to the new hardware
item...another possible symptom of this problem is if you seem to hear
everything but 8bit mono wavs and the like.

Fix: In your device manager change the sound card settings to those you
desire ,(ex:irq-5,DMA-1,5) therebye deactivating auto-configuration.

Hope that helps.

make sure you SET UP SOUND CARD IN DOS

Since you state that you DO have sound when Nascar loads then your
soundcard seems to function.

Make sure you haven't turned down the spotter's volume.  It effects
the volume of all other sounds.

Try loading N2 with the -f qualifier to use FM sound.  See if that works.
If that works, then try changing the low DMA your card uses.

use the standard Address 220, IRQ 5, DMA 1 for low and DMA 3 or 5 for
high.
