first i think it sucks.  but thats not the point.  It came out in canada first
due to we have a F1 track and US doesnt.  First uk got it, than quebec\canada
and last stop is other countries like US and others without a F1 Track.

Just noticed that the USA release has been moved from February to April.
I guess Ubi soft takes time to finish the game properly [ more or less ]
for the US, but they don't hesitate to release unfinished products in Europe
[ they did the same with F1RS ]. Hmmmm, a bit strange??
How else do we explain a 6 month difference in release dates.

It's good to see the intelligent comments back! How we've missed the 'xxxx
sucks!' brigade.
Can you be more explicit, or is it beyond you to make an intelligent
comment?
MGPRS2 is loved by a lot of people on this NG.

In addition to bug fixes ;o), there are a few other reasons for delaying
the US release:
- Relatively small F1 audience in US.
- Short lifespan of games on retail shelves, and cutthroat competition by
distributors to get shelfspace. If they had released it in conjunction
with the European/rest-of-world release, it would be in the bargain bins
by now.
- Given the above, the optimal time for an F1 game to be released in the
States would be around the beginning of the F1 season, when the fan base
is active and there's a chance to get some crossover PR.
Of course, most of the people here who are *really* interested in the
game have probably already bought an import copy from interactcd, so
Ubi's US sales figures will probably be lower than they hoped.

I found a copy of MGPRS2 here in Dallas at Electronic Boutique last
month.  Are we talking about the same game?  Or do they have a newer
version that includes the official licenses?

I bought my copy in Ontario in December but it was an "imported from
Denmark" version. Works fine though.

It came out in Canada already not because we have a F1, but because the
game is developped in France and beta tested in Montreal, Quebec (guess
what, it's a french speaking province (for the most part)). Or at least,
that's what I think. Ubi soft has a branch in Montreal. The previous F1
title came out a few months before the US release.

E.Boutique has been known to sell the European version of the game
You can also buy it from Ubi soft directly, but this is not the final
US and Canadian version.
I guess if you keep downloading patches eventually it'll be the same as the
real US version, it's just that it is a bit strange that they have to rush
and release
buggy versions first in Europe [ they could have waited for the start of the
season
in Europe too and simply release the non rushed version ]

Hmm, I swear I saw a copy of this at EB last week for $19.99.  This is
the follow up to Ubi's F1 sim right?  I believe it was an import copy
though, I almost bought it but passed for some reason.  I liked the
1st F1, still play it actually, and this seemed to just be more of the
same.  Any reason I should get it?
Thanks,
Andy

I tried the demo and the cars seem to handle a bit better in the new
version, you can push a bit harder in turns, more like GP2
[ I think this is the main reason some people here dislike Ubi soft's
F1 series, it' just doesn't seem to handle as well in turns as GP2 did ]
and the main reason is of course , you can run it in 1024 x 768
while the old one is stuck at 640 x 480 and after playing Viper racing
at 1024 x 768 it's hard to go back to those grainy resolutions.

Status: N

Quite simply, the delay boils down to the desire to have a multi platform
lauch at the same time.

PC/Playstations (and N64?)

I know, I know, but that is not the finished US/Canada version
That's an import that you can also buy on line and directly from
Ubi soft, I want the real finished, buless version [ they say April ], until
then it's Viper racing

This is not special. Many games released in the US are buggy (alpha
state ;^)
and when they are released in Europe, those bugs are already fixed.

Of course, as I dispise (sp?) localized versions I suffer through the
beta
phase of US versions, too...
