The depressing thing is that the decision is a result of ***y fag
advertising. "Our decision will be driven by our sponsor," says Roger
Penske. OK, so that's usually the case anyway, but does he have to be
quite so blatant about it? Not the slightest mention of a *racing*
reason for the switch. For heaven's sake, US, if only you'd have the
sense to ban tobacco ads (even on the EU's glacial timescale) we
wouldn't have this idiocy.
CART has problems right now, no point in denying that, but it depresses
me that a lot of people seem to have given up in an American-based
international series, and are content just to stay in the comfortable
rut of IRL. I'm not disputing that it might well have good racing - but
it would have been nice to see a proper international rival series to
shake F1 out of its complacency - instead it looks as though the best
we'll see is open-wheel NASCAR.

(even on the EU's glacial timescale) we
Yeah ban them and then nobody would be racing at all. No thanks.

What's the SEC?
Penske is not leaving CART!!!
Penske *may* start an irl team and move marlboro there, but he will stay in
CART, sponsors to be Mobil One, and Penske Auto Centers.
Where do you get this crap?
CART has all 3 coming back next year.
There is no sec investigation.
If your going to make statements, back them up with FACTS, not your musings.
All tobacco advertising will be banned in the US after 2006.
While not 100% accurate, CW isn't 100% wrong either, you can pick nit's
with his statements but there's no point in pretending everything is
hunky-dorry in CART.
2 of the 3 engine makers have said they're not staying past 2002 under the
proposed rules.

One of CART's biggest stakeholders is trying to use the SEC to stage a coup:

In layman's terms, they're the folks that came in and busted Gordon Gecco in
"Wall Street" the movie.

Good. A lot of people complain about tobacco ad banning, but I'm
totally in favour. You can drink safely; you can drive fast cars
safely... you can't smoke safely. There's the difference. (Not to
mention passive smoking...)

But CW said 2002.
Words mean things.
Right, NOT an investigation by the SEC, as was stated.
Again, words mean things.
