OT: More trouble for CART

From AR1- (read the last paragraph)

We hear that five very large firms are interested in sponsorship of CART's
Mexico City race.  As we have reported in the past, one is Toyota, the
others are a South American tobacco company who are coming out with a new
brand of cigarettes, a large telecommunications company, Corona, and another
large Mexican firm. We hear Toyota is opening a lot of new dealerships in
Mexico City, so race sponsorship fits in well for them.  The most
interesting news is that the promoters are starting to say they may get an
attendance of 400,000 on race day.  With Indy having right around 300,000
seats, and the infield crowd not being much these days, it seems almost
certain now that CART's Mexico City race will displace the Indy 500 as the
biggest race in the world. MC

Anybody remember why IndyCars had to abandon racing in Mexico last time?
(Hint: think soccer hooligans.)

The crowd was pretty well behaved this year.

As the most successful team in CART, Penske would be stupid to leave.
It will indeed be his loss, and CART will be the better for it.

Feeling stupid yet Mr Zeppelin?

from espn.com

Roger Penske and CART champion Gil de Ferran will be in Las Vegas on Tuesday
night to collect their $1 million for successfully defending their FedEx
Championship, but Penske will then bid adieu to the series he helped start
in 1979.

It looks like Roger Penske, right, is leaving CART for the IRL and will take
Gil de Ferran, left, with him.

Penske is expected to have a press conference in Indianapolis next week to
announce he's taking 2001 Indy winner Helio Castroneves and de Ferran to the
rival IRL in 2002. It was thought the nine-time CART champions might leave
de Ferran in CART to try for a third straight title but evidently that won't
be happening.

in

pretty typical, not facing up to the facts. It would be so hard to say, "Boy
I've got egg on my face, I was wrong.....". Wouldn't it?
