I have a ms sidewinder ff joystick and in gpl I can only use the wheel for
the gas. I would like to use it for the gas and brake. right now the brake
is on the trigger, I find it to hard to use the stick for the brake. is
there any way around this?

I'm not sure if this will work, but you can try it.

Calibrate the joystick and LEAVE the throttle wheel in the middle of it's
range (i.e, where you want to have no gas and no brake applied) before
pressing OK and leaving the calibration window.

Go to Set Controls, select Throttle and move the wheel forwards from the
center position.   Move the wheel back to the center position again.

Select Brake and move the wheel backwards from the center position.

Both the Throttle and Brake should now use the same joystick axis (throttle
wheel which should be axis 3 or 4), but in different directions.  I think.

Good luck,
Brian

Brian's advice is pretty much right on the money. It will be possible to
use the throttle wheel for both gas and brake, but the key thing is to
center it at the end of the calibration process and take note of the
exact position. Then when assigning the gas function, move it forward,
then return it to the exact same center position before trying to assign
the brake function to it.

It may take a bunch of tries, but you should be able to get it to take.

hey thanx guys, I found the problem, when I calibrate the joystick the wheel
values are 0 to 1000, all the other axis -1000 to 1000. so even when I moved
the wheel down it still came up as axis2>. the trick is to change the input
from direct input to generic then back to direct input. when you click ok
the calibration screen comes up and the wheel can have values from -1000 to
1000. and now it works fine. but if i calibrate it again it goes back to the
original 0 to 1000. i can't figure out why. now i have to learn how to brake
all over again, when i was using the trigger the brakes never locked up
(like braking help) but were not as strong.
