I am using a Microsoft 3D joystick and cannot seem to access any of the
menu options in advanced setup for my joystick except the calibration
setup.  I would like to change the shifting controls to my joystick buttons
instead of the fire button.  Can anyone help?

I figured out how to access the menu options but still cannot reassign the
shifter from Fire 1 (or spacebar) to button 3 and button 4.  Is this
possible?

You need to move to one of the "Not used" check boxes (or whatever they
say - there is 3 or 4 of them underneath where it says Keyboard [ ] and
Joystick [ ]...)

Once you check one of those boxes, you can change its name to "Microsoft
3D" or something like that and you will be able to change all of the other
advanced options...

Hope this helps,
- Mike.

I believe not. I'm not 100% certain, but I _am_ 90% certain. I have a
Gravis Gamepad, which has had the four buttons for years now, and only a
selected few games ever supported anything more than two buttons.

You see, what these four button joysticks do is that they steal away the
button assignments from a secondary joystick. Because most people don't use
double joysticks, and precious few games support multiple players on the
same console (i.e. the same PC), most games don't even bother looking for
signals a from a second joystick.

About the first and one of only a few games that did was Doom and
Wolfenstein.
