Haven't seen much feedback on improvement for online racing. For me if
anything, I've had more winking and disconnects than before - maybe its just
my ISP having problems at the moment. I even dabbled with reducing the
connection speed on my 56k modem to 28800, but so far the quality reading is
.8 or less, when before it was in the .9 and better range. So whats the
general response - improvement of not?

before you start blaming GPL for these, do a "Inspect" on the server
you're connecting to.  I've found MANY time outs along the way at
various places between 4:pm and 12:midnite EST.

It's that time of year when you will be disconnected more and more till
just after Christmas.  After Jan 30th (or abouts) the net will magically
clear up and become almost perfect again.

Try it you'll see it's not GPLs fault.

I have also suffered clock smashes and discos on servers that I perviously
have always had great connections to.

Atm GPL 1.2 has a 100% disco rate for me when previously I would go months
without a disco.

I suspect sync method = 1 and will test some more tonight and will post my
findings

Anyone else had similar problems since installing 1.2? and how did you cure
it?

GPL 2.01 is out?

The league I'm in has been experimenting with 1.2 for a month or so. It
is much better for on-line racing. The collision physics are greatly
improved on-line, and the cars are much more solid. This allows much
closer racing.

During this time, we have also been monitoring the web more closely, and
it has been extremely bad during peak hours. Also, my previously great
cable conection has gone to hell also, due to increased splitting of the
available bandwidth with more people on it.

1.2 is much better for on-line racing, but the net is getting worse. No
matter how good the code is, if a lot of packets are getting lost, or
the latency is varying and getting extremely long, racing on-line will
not be pretty. Check your local connection, and your route to the hosts
you race on.

I used to have a ping of less than 160 msec to Alison Hine, and lately
it has been mostly 800 or more. I used to be able to host 16 or 18
racers, now I have problems with 9. Don't balme 1.2, because it is
really great when it works. Check your ISP, and try racing off peak
hours.

Works great for me. I have been shut down from GPL online racing for months due
to 1.1.  Now its back to the way it used to be.

Thanks for your thoughts Kevin ... but since I am a regular GPLer (most
nights) and have been months without a disco, I had ruled out bad internet
weather

testing tonight using 1.2 and old sync method meant my connection was a
reliable as ever. Not one disco in several races, also no more clock smashes
/ mega warps.

I will test sync method 1 again another time, but atm I will stick with the
super relaible (for me) sync method 0

Inspect is an added utility that comes with GSB.  It's on the tool bar
at the top.  Just click on a host and then click on the Inspect button.

Inspect?  Is that another neat utility that I've missed, or is that part of
GSB(which I don't use)?
