and crashes often. However GP4 looks like it can be a lot of fun.
Now that they're both widely available, how do they compare. I ask this
because i play F1-2002 more due to GP4 being extremely buggy.

The generalised verdict is that F12002 is so far the best overall... by how
much and why? Everyone's got their opinions and besides, who cares.
Everyone should try the demos then buy the one they personally like most or
simply buy both!
I own F1-2002, and i find it very fun. I've tried GP4 but its very unstable,
and crashes often. However GP4 looks like it can be a lot of fun.

Neither is GPL you know :-)
GP4 doesnt have one
I wonder why
COUGH AHEM ITS WORSE THAN GP3 COUGH AHEM

As far as I have been able to find out through various reliable sources..
GP4 is actually the better GAME while F1-2002 is the better SIMULATION.
Which is the best buy for you depends on what you are after.... fun dicing
with the AI = GP4, realistic physics = F1-2002.

I think you will find those who grew up with Crammond sims like World
Circuit and GP2,3, will prefer GP4. Many of those without previous
experience in that line seem to gravitate to F1 2002. Now the big
difference and one that I think falls in favor if F1 2002 is the # of former
GP series users who have changed and now prefer F1 2002. I think the # of
changed drivers is greater migrating from gp3/4 to F 2002 than vice versa.
No scientific data to back that up, just my 'general' impression after
reading many posts about the two sims.

I certainly fall into that category. I was a big GP1,2,3 fan but have now
jumped ship. I tried out GP4 last weekend and it's not as bad as some
people in here make out but just feels outdated in the physics department.
The graphics are fairly poor except for the trackside scenary but the most
disappointing aspect for me is the lacklustre force feedback. I would
recommend GP4 only for casual racers and/or people who don't own steering
wheels.

I fall into that latter category. In case anybody wonders why, I'll spend a
few lines on explaining why I've chosen to bail on the Crammond series now.
Competition. This time there actually IS competition. When GP2/3 came out,
there weren't a whole lot of options. I was disappointed with GP3 as well,
but I couldn't find anything better. From GP3 to GP4 I was really hoping for
realism. Not necessarily in the physics department, but I wanted realistic
racedays. I wanted the light at the end of the pitlane in practise. I wanted
proper penalties. I wanted to drive in and park after getting a podium
finish. F1-2002 delivers a lot more in these areas than GP4 does. GP4 is
focused entirely on updating the graphics and providing the same arcadey
(and thus fun) drive as before. It has no added details apart from the now
added pit-crew and that you start qualifying and practise in the garage.
If you ever want to test the physics difference, do the following in both
GP4 and F1-2002.
1) Drive flat out down a straight (in the wet if you need emphasis)
2) Let go of the gas and downshift instantly
GP4 will keep on cruising, in F1-2002 your back will snap out cause of the
torque reaction on the rear tyres.

but of cos, we all play it on wheel rite...
I play mine using keyboard as I still have not gotten myself a wheel and at
the moment, despite buggy moments in GP4, its still a better cry than F1
2002. If I have a wheel, my verdict might swing to the preference of EA's
instalment...
Aye, the steering aid in GP4 is much better than in F1-2002. I'd almost go
as far as to say F1-2002 is near unplayable without a wheel, at least in
regards to getting any decent times. In GP4 I'm a lot quicker with joystick
than wheel.

As for this debate with which one is better with a keyboard?! I mean, come
on, you can only play arcade games with the keyboard, not simulators (well,
actually, maybe "Lunar Lander" ;-).

Unless something's changed in the last week or so, GP4 doesn't *have* a demo...
