GPL and Cable modem

Since a couple of days I have a cable connection, everything works fine
except I can't connect to a race on VROC. I've changed the alternate IP
value in the core.ini to 1 and back to 0 but it didn't work. I use the IP
override to use my specific IP address.
When a game is launched I get taken to the multiplayer screen where I get
the connection window. In the background I can see connect via tcp/ip
127.0.0.1, which is not my IP address.
Could anybody help me, some people at the Apex have already helped me but
it's still not working?

In principle it should work. Works in my case via both cable and ISDN.

Make sure you use correct syntax in core.ini. There is no message when a
parameter is misspelled. You must use:

[ Communications ]
alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1

When you start GPL by hand, do you see the correct ip address listed under
'Connect via' in the multiplayer? This should show the ip address of your
cable connection.

Does it work when you connect through GSB?

Thanks for your advice Bart but I've already used that value change. When I
launch it by hand it doesn't show the correct IP. So that's the problem. It
shows a IP that I can't place. (127.0.0.1)

What's GSB?

Hi Harjan,

alternate_ip_addr_lookup=1 be sure it is set to 1

o.k now try this
check this in controlpanel-network
click on tcp/ip protocol (make line blue)
choose properties than click tab DNS Configuration
checkmark DNS ON
than fill in at hostbox your IPnr 195.38.xxx.xx
domainbox remains empty
than Searchpriority of DNSserver fill in your primary dns server
194.158.xxx.xx hit ADD
fill in secundary dns server 194.158.xxx.xx hit ADD

The IPnr and DNSservernrs should be provided by your ISP Bart

If at the hostbox it is said "local host" than change it to your IPnr.

Hope this helps

Bedankt,

it works just fine now, the host setting at the DNS config did the trick,
thanks a lot, I'll finally be able to do some serious racing now.

Harjan.

In case you're still wondering, as far as I know 127.0.0.1 refers to
local host.  In other words, if you ping 127.0.0.1 you are pinging your
own machine.  Not much use to you, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Actually I believe 127.0.0.1 is a loopback address, ie. your own machine ...
but that's irrelevant since the orig. guy got it working :)

You are correct 127.0.0.1 is the loopback address of the localhost
