F1 2001 and Thrustmaster Modena split axes

by Miha » Wed, 28 Nov 2001 06:33:54

I have problems with the pedals on Modena 360 Pro in F1 2001.

If I create a profile with Thrustmapper and assign split pedal axes ,
accelerator seems to become digital. I only feather right pedal and it revs
up to max in neutral. I cant drive like this- its like using keys !

If I chose combined axes, it runs ok. But I am so used to running split axes
from GPL it causes me big problems with my driving style.

Also, I remember once I unistalled Thrustmaster programme and windows98 SE
recognised the wheel correctly, with seperate axis and it worked great. But
that only worked for 1 day, now it only recognises combined axis in this
way. So I must use Thrustmapper to get it work it seems.

I use Thrustmapper 3.02 ( the latest version) and run Win98SE.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

What is your throttle axis sensitivity setting? It needs to be set very high
(85%) with my Ferrari FF wheel.

Are you happy with your Ferrari FF wheel? Have you had any problems with it,
in terms of compatibility with various games and OS's?

Thanks,
Steve

Try using older drivers, either the 2.1.11 or 2.0.16 (versions for my
TMFF Ferrari wheel anyway).  I've had no problems with split-axis or
anything with them.  I don't bother mapping button to special commands
although it would have helped for the F1-F9 keys in N4.

I'm on WinME.

I love my wheel under WinME.  It has paddle shifters, split-axis, a very
comfortable wheel and even feels good (not knotchy) without FF turned
on.  It wasn't compatible with F1RC without extra software to make it
work, but thats it.

I had to send mine in for RMA after 8 months due to a "sticking" brake
pedal pot.  They didn't have a replacement pack and it was still under
warrenty so I had to send the whole wheel back.

Jason.

Thanks for the info Jason. I haven't decided which wheel to get but I like
this one. I'd like the Momo, but I find the price a bit steep. I hope it
works as well under XP as it appears to work for you under WinME.

To clarify, I have the Ferrari FF wheel.  I believe the Modena just
doesn't have the sequential shifter.  Check out the www.thrustmaster.com
online shop for more details about the different models.

Yup, I'm interested in the Ferrari Force Feedback wheel. I like the look of
the Modena (BTW the Modena Pro does have a sequential shifter), but AFAIK,
the Modena doesn't have force feedback.

I love this wheel. It feels very solid and the ff is is excellent. Works
well with ff off too, and even looks nice.

F12001 is the only game I've had a problem with. Unfortunately, ISI didn't
test this wheel with their F12001 patch. I had to go back to older 2.1.6
drivers. The 2.3.6 (Thruistmapper 3.08) were a mess with the patch.

So far it has been bug free with XP. My previous OS was 98 and it worked
fine with that too.

Thanks David.

Unless I can find a way to come up with the money for a Momo, it looks like
I'll be getting the Ferrari FF. I hope the problems with F1 2001 will get
resolved ASAP (either from TM or ISI), as this is the game I will be
spending most of my time with.

I'm also glad to hear that you don't have any problems with it under XP.

Just make sure you install the 2.1.6 drivers and you'll have fantastic ff in
F12001. You'll still have to recalibrate the wheel every time you start the
game, but people with other types of wheels have to do the same thing also.
