GPL 1.1 problems; single or multi-player?

by Rand » Mon, 12 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I have been reading about a number of problems some people are having
with the 1.1 patch.  What I find confusing is whether the problems
occur online, offline, or both.  I have seen one person complain of
problem so and so in single player mode and then the next person
responds with his solution that appears to involve network settings
changes in the core.ini file??  We all need to be more specific if we
are to track down any reacurring problems and solutions with the new
patch.

As for my problem; since installing 1.1 I have had what look like
clock smashes only they are happening in single player mode. I believe
I have seen others with the same problem.  Has anyone found a
solution?

off to buy a FF wheel,
Randy

GPL 1.1 problems; single or multi-player?

I havent tried online yet.but offline im only getting 25 fps whatever
graphic level is set in training/racing whatever,With or without FF
being implemented, and the whole thing does feel sluggish.
this is with or without old/new core.ini old/new rast3dfx etc.
Changing any of the settings in the ini's seems to make no difference
for me.
Tried old righteous3d2 drivers instead of the recent glide 2.56 3dfx ref
drivers and still the same. Tried dx6 and 6.1 still the same.
Tried disabling SLI,no difference.
But simply copying the GPL.exe off of the CD into the gpl directory and
36 fps again,albeit no more FF :-(

The 25 fps is very consistent although for some odd reason i have
noticed that the framerate goes up when going around corners which is
totallly the opposite to what i would expect, probably not at all
important but i thought i'd mention it anyway.
I have seen some games go like this b4,I remember that after playing POD
for 8hours solid that for some reason it would occasionly run slowly but
smoothly.

My system :-

        PII 450
        384 mb 100sdram
        SBLive
        2 Righteous 3d 2's SLI'd
        intel 740 agp
Microsft FF wheel connected to SBLive and Digital Edge F1 sim
pedals using rockfire usb to joystick adapter
        Win98
        Internet explorer 5
        56K internal modem

Have to say that the FF feels incredible and that you've done a
fantastic job with it,far beyond my expectations, now if only this incey
little glitch could be ironed out.....

Hi Randy and all,

The following settings -seem- to have greatly reduced the number of "clock
smashes" I've been experiencing since upgrading.

In core.ini (renamed from core.ini.sample) I set:

    clock_adj_delay = 16
    synch_method = 0
    disable_modem = 1    (I don't have a modem. I'm on cable modem.)

Since doing this I've had -none- in practice mode and only one in race
mode (off-line; I'm not fast enough for on-line ... yet.) I was getting an
average of 1-3 per lap in race mode before the changes. I then proceeded
to take 2 seconds off my best lap at Monza ... 8^)...research continues.

GPL 1.1 problems; single or multi-player?

by J. P. Hovercraf » Tue, 13 Jul 1999 04:00:00

3nd day of running the patch, 2nd since I made the changes mentioned in the
last message. No "clock smashes" in practice mode. This evening, 3 of them,
much less severe than originally while in Single Race mode, both in the 15
min. warmup and while actually in the 5 lap race.
