Yet another Talladega problem

Yet another Talladega problem

Hey everyone,
If you're not tired of hearing questions about Talladega, here's another
one.  On re-starts, every other car just blows me away.  I'm running in
2nd gear, about 90 mph before the pace car pulls off, and then, as soon
as it does, the other cars just go by like I'm sitting still.  Should I
adjust my 2nd gear one way or the other?  I'm fairly ignorant about
setups, so any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
KP

Changing gears does not help.  Here is the solution that I use.

1. Create two copies of the drivers2.txt file, one called normal.txt and
the other plates.txt.
2. Edit plates.txt, lowering the power settings to 300 350 or around there.
 For those
who don't know, these are the first two columns with three digit numbers.
These differ for each driver, but should be closer with the "plate" on.
3. Edit Taladega.txt in the track\taladega directory.  Bump the "rels" line
to around 102, this gets the top speed of the opponents back up, since
there loss in horsepower.
4. Now copy plates.txt to drivers2.txt when you want to run a restrictor
plate race (like Talladega) and normal.txt to drivers2.txt when you are
running others.

You will find that the computer cars now run closer together on the track
and that they no longer blow you away on restarts.

I assume you're talking about AI cars. This is a situation where the AI
cars don't suffer from cold tires. About the best you can do is to set your
car up so that in 1st gear, you're turning around 7500 RPMs. Set up 2nd and
3rd so that the RPMs are matched pretty evenly as you shift up through the
gears. Don't over-rev the engine, once you get past 8500 RPMs or so, the
torque drops off, so downshift when you hit about 9000 RPMs.

Also, you can hedge a bit by leaving a few car lengths between you and the
car in front, and anticipate the green flag. As long as you don't pass the
car in front to the left before the s/f line, you're perfectly legal as far
as NASCAR rules are concerned.
