GPL & V2 lockups + weird behaviour revisited

Without raking over old news I was having problems with my V2 card
locking up and having to wiggle the card to get it to work again, and
then after about 10 minutes or so everything would be hunky-dory.

Well, I managed to replace my V2 card with a V3 2000 PCI and the lockups

800x600 it hasn't as yet shown this symptom (Wonder if 800x600 would
have been ok with my V2?).

Anyway, I need 640x480 because running at 800x600 made the game more
difficult - serious steering failure suddenly despite same detail
settings - but I can live with this odd blinking out, coz at least the
game isn't locking up completely and it does settle down after a couple
of minutes.

At first I was worried that the refresh rate was too high and kept away
from this res. but after updating the V3 drivers and retrying it to find
all was ok and then playing it the next time to find that this oddity
had reappeared I knew that it couldn't be that.  Also I don't think that
this is particular to 640x480 because whilst writing this at 1024x786
just after booting up in a cold room it did blink out just the once as
well.

Hey ho, I can live with this for now, but will be updating my CPU soon
in the hope that there lies the probby.

ive got a k6-233 with a voodoo2 12meg

whenever the AI cars get in a pinch the graphics dont update for a minute or
two...

and the graphics have to uh 'prime' themselves... like whenver i come up on a
car i havent see before the graphics will 'freeze' for a sec... it also does
this on certain sections of track... i think its trying to load up textures or
something...

are these the problems that you were talking about?
