FASTLAP 97 NASCAR 2 RESULTS 1st WEEK

by Don Wilsh » Sat, 26 Jul 1997 04:00:00

Drivers:

Subject:        NASCAR 2 FASTLAP COMPEITION

PAT DOTSON and JURE Z are the drivers on the TOP..  We would like to
congradulate Pat a seasoned PRO with NASCAR 1 and 2.  The Surprise has
been the performance from the KID "JURE" from Slovenia.  What kind
of STOCK CARS do they have over there?????

1).     We have received a total of 179 Fastlaps and you can view
this results at the IVGA.  http://www.racesimcentral.net/

2).     We havent had a single driver attempt a FASTLAP with a
PONTIAC.  Personally I loved the PONTIAC in NASCAR 1.

3).     The Ford are dominating, except for Mr. Butts and Mr. Farr's
        196's at Taladega.

4).     We are in the process of adding more categories and statistics to
        the calculation program.

Richard.. I know Pat Dotson.. he's a darn good driver.. But Fastlap's
flaw is that it gives you too much time to qualify hence... driving
backwards to heat up the tires and get more speed.   Go ahead.. Flame

WRONG ANSWER.  FASTLAP 97 can detect if you drive backward on the
track..  Thanks for the attempt at answering something you dont know
anything
about but please leave it to the people that wrote the code and are
EXPERT
in FASTLAP 97..

Don

How may I ask does fastlap DETECT driving backwards?  Nascar2 doesn't
report such a thing.  Can one of the "EXPERTS" explain this?
Fastlap may detect the effect of driving backwards (too much time used
to complete qualifications) but not the backwards driving itself.

Besides the beta version DID allow enough time to drive backwards and
take a whole extra warmup lap.

I wonder if either meant to drive the track in the wrong direction.
Driving in reverse could be risky at best.  Driving the wrong way
is detected in the game, and you'll hear your spotter commenting
on brain-fade.

Cheers!

To clerify myself... let's use Talladega for example... you have
almost 5 minutes to qualify.  What this means is that when you start
the game and click on Qualify, you are now in the pits ready to make
your run.  Turning the car around and driving the opposite way will
not only get rid of some gas, but heat up the tires a bit more too.  I
tried this to see and my rough guess is that you can just about go
back to turn3.. turn back around and still have an "ample" amount of
time to make your qualifying run and also have hotter tires and less
gas.  Cutting the pits might also be possible at some tracks... Wikes,
maybe Richmond, maybe Dega?  I dunno, but my point is, people can go
backwards for reasons mentioned above to enhance their times and the
program doesn't recognize this irregularity.

Richard.. absolutely.. not only are they very "hit-able" but I know
Pat.. we've raced numerous times on Kali and will vouch for any times
he posts.  I don't want to turn this into a reply that you perhaps
were doubting Pat's times.. I'm sure you're not.  I'm just pointing
out that the FASTLAP97 program along with Nascar2 qualifying run's
(the game itself) doesn't check for going backwards and cutting the
pit.

Obviously you haven't ran Fastlap or you would know that the laps are
timed. And might I add that there is very few seconds to spare.

I'm not sure what Richard is refering to here, but I assure you that
there was no driving backwards to heat the tires for these runs.  If
I did do that and heat the tires, my qual speed at the Glen would be
over 124 (you've seen my replay cmone :) ).

What did you mean Richard?

I'm sorry Chris but I have downloaded FASTLAP, run it and YES, you can
go backwards to atleast turn 3, (DEGA)  stop, turn around and still
have enough time to run your qual lap and save it.  You can also cut
the pits.

WRONG WRONG WRONG CHARLIE... We read the GAS when
you are done with your FASTLAP and make sure you didnt run
more than 1.6 gallons..  If you run backwards up the track you will
BURN GAS,,,, BRILLANT HUH!!!!

WRONG WRONG WRONG....

STICK TO DRIVING ... YOUR STILL THE BEST
