So what you're saying is:

1. If a user drives backwards to turn 2, turns back around and makes his
qualifying run in less that the required time limit and saves it without
going over the time limit.. FASTLAP97 won't accept the time?

2. Is cutting through the pit detected?.. I've been able to save results
doing the
above mentioned and cutting the pit without a problem... is it detected?

Thanks!

If you can do this and submit your speed as if it were legit and still
sleep at night then you must not have much of a conscience.  I appreciate
your comments Charlie, but anyone who has written code to prevent
cheating knows that it isn't possible to catch every form of cheating and
the honor systm just isn't enough either.  When NRO is released, if it is
ever released, I have no doubt that Papyrus will have written code to
disqualify anyone who has driven backwards on the track, cut through the
pits, or exceeded the speed limit on pit road during qualifying.  When
they do, we will finally have a simulator that we can truely use as a
driver performance benchmark system.  Until then we do what we can.

You can't set the time limits too low because some folks are still
running 486s.  They wouldn't have time to make a legitimate attempt.

Charlie:

Always good questions!!!!

Yes, because he will have exceeded his GAS BURNED LIMIT!!!

In NASCAR 1 and MULTI is was possible to drive through the
pits like TALADEGA and WILKES.  I know they fixed TALADEGA
but I dont know about the other tracks.    DRIVING THROUGH the
pits is tough and has to be fixed for all versions of NASCAR

NASCAR 1, NASCAR 2, and MULTI.  Hopefully PAPYRUS will
fix it in the new MULTI2.exe for NRO as well

Just a minor wrench in the works: I don't think the Papyrus cars burn
fuel in reverse. Thus, it MIGHT be possible (I haven't checked) to
back the car around the track and get a minor gain in heating the
tires and/or a better start to the out lap... (Of course, there'd be
plenty of times that you put the car in the wall while backing...)

Jim:

They arent talking about driving the cars in reverse.  They are talking
about turning the cars around and driving them backwards up the
track.  This allows about 1 mph faster on qualifying unless you detect
the fuel burned

Right, but if I leave my car facing the correct direction, and use
reverse to back around the track (clockwise), then rotate the car to
face the wrong way, then reverse (travelling counter-clockwise), get to
some point on the lap, pull a boot-legger and nail the gas, it is
probably possible to defeat the simple gas check...

(And, if you allow infinite attempts, eventually someone will get it
right...)

>What did you mean Richard?

Hi Pat,

Sorry - wasn't try to imply anything about your laps & most certainly
wasn't trying to suggest anything improper about them.

Rather it was just a lame attempt at humour - Don's post missed out the
minute from those times & the idea of getting around the Glen in just
"11.207" seconds tickled my fancy <g> Wouldn't have posted my message if
I had realised the fuss it would cause!

Cheers,
Richard

To clerify myself... let's use Talladega for example... you have
almost 5 minutes to qualify.  What this means is that when you start
the game and click on Qualify, you are now in the pits ready to make
your run.  Turning the car around and driving the opposite way will
not only get rid of some gas, but heat up the tires a bit more too.  I
tried this to see and my rough guess is that you can just about go
back to turn3.. turn back around and still have an "ample" amount of
time to make your qualifying run and also have hotter tires and less
gas.  Cutting the pits might also be possible at some tracks... Wikes,
maybe Richmond, maybe Dega?  I dunno, but my point is, people can go
backwards for reasons mentioned above to enhance their times and the
program doesn't recognize this irregularity.

This took you two months?...I'm lost on the original thread, but I
seem to recall Don having an alotted time in order to complete
your run...Not enough time to do as you illustrate.

Cheers!

Marc,

Two months ago there was enough time.

Now you don't even start in the pits anymore.

I usually have an extra 8-10 seconds if I hurry thru the menus.
