Didn't MG revive the old 'B' for a few years in the early 90s
(as the Rover RV8??) with the Rover V8 and some cosmetic freshening?
It was a dog and out of its league in the 90s. They should have jumped
straight to the 'F and left us with fond memories of the 'B.
As for brand recognition in America, I'm sure it depends on
where Randy was from. I came from Toronto, which seemed to have
the right mix of affluence and British roots to fuel a healthy
market for MGBs, Midgets, Spitfires, and TR6s. But if I
went out to the more rural areas, I would see 100 Barracudas,
Challengers, AMXs, Mustangs and Camaros before I saw one
Italian or British sports car.

: I've actually always wondered what a good old MG/B would be like with some type of turbo
: motor plus good suspension and wheels/tyres. I reckon if someone started buying these thing up
: and giving them a state of the art makeover that they could do very well. I see this is
: happening with the Datsun 240Zs now. Cars these days have so much emphasis on aerodynamics that
: they will never match the character of some of these older classics.
