I have an AWE32 PnP that works perfectly for all apps. (Win95, DOS Mode,
whatever) except for the new Need For Speed II game. I describe the
problem below--if anyone has a suggestion as to whether this problem could
possibly be hardware related I would appreciate it. I am assuming that it
is a programming issue with the software, but......!?!?!?!
I get a crackling (popping/snapping) sound while racing. On my
computer, it appears only after I have encountered a "spatial" special
effect, like a tunnel, the ocean sound, or a big accident. Once the 3D
impressive sounds have activated, from that point onward, I get an annoying
crackling sound that remains until I exit the track. Once I re-start a new
(or the same) track, the sound is crystal clear--until I encounter a
spatial effect.
I am using an AWE32 PnP. The problem has occurred on 2 motherboards and
CPU's, on (DirectX) uncertified and certified versions of my video card
drivers. I am using the latest (revision 9) SB32 drivers. All DirectX
categories are certified. The crackling occurs whether I use the Creative
Labs 3D Enhanced Sound feature or not. It appears in the game regardless of
which sound setup options I use (8/16 bit, mono/stereo, standard/optimal).
It occurs whether I use joystick or keyboard input (including with the
joystick unplugged).
Of course, I don't get this crackling in any other games or apps. or when
playing a CD.
Check it out on your systems. If I am running with low quality settings, it
is much harder to hear, but it is still there. On high quality settings
with good speakers, it is most annoying. Let me know if any of you have the
same occurrence.
Thanks.
