NASCAR too slow - help?

by Brian Richard Lohise » Thu, 13 Jul 1995 04:00:00

Hey,

Can anybody give my some ideas of how to make NASCAR run faster?  I have been
trying it in SVGA mode and it seems really slow.  I'm used to playing Indycar
and it seems like NASCAR is much slower.  Also is there anyway to tell what
frame rate you're getting?  I know you can set the minimum and the max., but
can you tell the actual?  I'm using a Gateway p5-60 w/ 8M ram and 2M on the
STB video card.  Thanks for any ideas or help you can give me.

I am also getting a slow game condition in SVGA mode. It is much
faster on VGA, but looks worse! Also, do you still have sound? When I
went from VGA to SVGA I lost sound for the game, I played with it, but
no dice.

Brian,

I don't know that there is anything you can really do besides tweak
your bootdisk setup or lower the graphics detail.  I'm running SVGA
on a Pentium 120 with 24 MB of RAM and a Diamond Stealth VRAM
card with 2 MB of memory and still have to cut back on the detail
levels to keep the animation smooth (i.e., no grass textures, no
track textures, grandstand detail off)  I don't think the system has
been built (for home use anyway) that can handle SVGA on this game
with all the detail pushed to the max.  Hope this doesn't discourage you,
too much.

Sounds like you have too many graphics running at once. Try it with
everything off except skids/paint, objects, cars and ???. The pavement and
grass are the memory "HOGS!". Try turning on other graphics one at a time
untill you get a good setup for your system. I can ru high resolutioin
graphics with a boot disk on a 486dx280 with most of the grphics turned
off!

Let me know if this helps.
