F1RS Bugs or What

by Eric Nicai » Wed, 17 Dec 1997 04:00:00

Hi,

Here are some things that look very strange to me in F1 RS From UBI
SOFT:

- When Playing I replay, there is no Sound playing  !!!! Is it the
same for everybody ?? Is it a Bug or What ?

- I tried many times to race 25 % length Races with all damaged to the
mecanic enabled but I never had any engine blow up, even with pushing
the max rate Engine to 17 500 T/ MN. And same for all concurrent.

Any solution to this ???

Endly, I have the same probleme than many of you. I mean the game
speed Freeze at the Race Start and after , no problem. I have a P 133
+ 32 Mo ram + 3DFX. Do people with BIGGER configs have the same
problem ??

Thanks for your reply

I have given up trying to use the replays..

Why did UBI not put them in 3Dfx as well? SVGA sucks big time!

This is fixed in the first patch...

Gee, I can't remember if the sound was fixed in replays? I guess,
I like racing better than watching. ;^)

Actually, Ubisoft can rectify this by making the Sim even more accurate.

How?

Simple, by releasing a patch that adds ONE single lap to a Grand Prix:

THE WARM UP LAP!!!!

That would take care of the build up of the track, but still make it
possible to keep the car on the track because a warm up lap is driven at
"low" speeds, no overtaking, no excessive steering needed, just cassually
folow the guy in front or if you're pole sitter, drive whatever speed
neccessary to warm the tires.

If Ubisoft wants to remedy this, a warm up lap would be IDEAL. Can we see
some David Coulthard warm up laps a-la 1995? Or Schumacher and Damon blowing
engines in a warm up lap?

You might, as I always do, turn of task planner before lauching ANY game in
Win95. Taskplanner just happens to access the drive on certain points in
time, making the game stutter and wait for the drive to be given back again
so it can continue writing and reading data neccessary to create the
illusion you're driving an F-1 car at 300+ Km/H.

Just a thought.

BTW, who uses the Game device profiler for the MS-joysticks? Very handy in
the pit. One butten to acknowledge a pit entry, one for the speed limiter
and one for the crew to give commands. Just that little tad faster then
reaching for the keyboard.

And another point, at first I was a bit irritated that shifting up and down
isn't tied to the brake or accelerate position of the joystick a-la GP-2.
Now, I praise the 2 button shift up and down, since it now is more like
reality. You don't see Damon or Jacques or Michael shifting with the same
paddle now, do we?

Salut,

Firstly, I can't comment on the replay, as I never use it... From my
observations it tends to slow down the game, esp. because it causes more HD
hits... In response to your speed problem at the start of the race, maybe
you could try disabling the replay option, that could help some... I use a
beefed-up P166, 64 Mo RAM & also experience noticeable slowdowns during the
game but it's still manageable on my machine. Basically, the more powerful
your machine is, the better it gets, but I'm only stating the obvious
here... :-)

As regards to damage, I've now played the game for many, many hours :-) &
had my car break down only twice. Once it was engine blow-up, the other time
it was oil pressure failure. That happened during "essais" (sorry I'm too
lazy to check the English word for it...) on a Williams-Renault & full
damage on (actually I think the engine blow-up occurred when I was on
partial damage only !). Mind that for "essais" & qualifications I usually
boost my engine to 17500 rpms to get maximum performance. I was also racing
at 25% length but with rpms toned down to 17000 rpms for more security &
didn't encounter any failure so far... Maybe YMMV if you're driving in
another team (did I hear Ferrari ? :-)) ? I've now set races length to 50% &
will see if I can get any failure in that mode...

Happy racing !

Just a thought, have you set the option for proportional wear (?) can't
remember what it is actually called or where abouts I found it, but if
you turn it on, on a 50% race you use up fuel and tyres twice as
quickly. I don't know if this affects wear on the engine or anything but
it seems logical that it would.

>BRILLIANT idea...are you listening Ubisoft?

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm using the Dutch version of Win95 so I don't know what the
US/English name of the program is. It keeps your drives fragment-free,
notifies you when your drives are beginning to fill up, check them
regularly. That program does access the drive from time to time to check for
the amount of free space remaining.

It's a program that binds keystrokes to a button of ANY Microsoft ***
device. Very handy indeed.

Set in the rules section Speed Limit yes.

I've been called back many times to the pit to sit out a 10 second penalty
for pitlane speeding. I love this. It's so much better than GP2s "We slow
you down for half a minute" penalty.

The manual says that TAB is the key for the speed limiter. So, better be
careful to press it before going over the radar-line in the Pit. It really
is functioning. You race into the pit, you press tab just 0.001 second too
late, you leave the pit:

"10 second penalty for pitlane speeding. Report to the pit."

Truly bliss Sim, Ubisoft, Trulli bliss. :-)

About bugs, since that's the name of this thread:

Whenever I load a Ghost, be it one of myself or from the net, I get a
rear-car view when I enter the ghost-lap and my rear-view mirrors are
blanked out completely with white. Anyone else have this problem? I've
installed the patch.

I think that one is called a "feature" <g> Presumably it has problems
displaying the ghost in the mirrors so it blanks them out and puts you in
the rear-car view so that the casual driver won't even know about the
non-functioning mirrors....

Cheers,
Richard
