Anyone got any answers for the following?  Nascar 3 looks good with good
framerate in open gl and looks poor and slow in Direct 3d. With Nascar 4 the
opposite is true with Open gl being so slow it is unplayable and direct 3d
looking washed out but with good framerate.

System: celeron at 416 mhz
Voodoo 3 agp 2000
128 mb ram
latest voodoo drivers and direct x 8

Thankyou, Peter Vaughan

Pretty simple... you're confusing OpenGL and Glide (3Dfx propriety API).

Nascar3 supported Glide and D3D, of which Glide is the faster option. N4
supports D3D and OpenGL where D3D is the quicker option for VoodooX owners.

You should be faster in D3D but your system is screaming for an upgrade, at
least the MB and CPU. You can get a 1.33 Ghz AMD and a good MB for around
$360.00 US right now, should drop in the next couple weeks when Intel cuts
their prices.

It's in the README folks...3dfx runs better with N4 using D3D.  Now
realise your Voodoo3 is pretty much barely meeting the minimum requirements.
It will still run the game, but will be underperforming compared to some
other video cards.   You can fix some of the washed out look by going to the
3dfx tools and adjusting the D3D brightness.  ((I forget if it's too much
brite that causes the washed out look or not enough..))  push the sliders up
first and then try N4..if it gets worse, move the sliders back to the
left...
  Good luck.
