GPL Demo troubles

by HervĂ© Nicoll » Sat, 03 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Hi from France +ACE-

After several weeks of frustration, I got the GPL Demo ( Monza ) on a PC
Magazine CD ROM +ACE-

Duly installed, doesn't work at all: after completion of the basic options,
I only get a sad and unrealistic noise of what is supposed to be a rushing
Cosworth V8 (I obviously choose the 49' Chapman' Missile) and nothing
happens +ACE-

Moreover, the PC is stuck and I have to reboot. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled the demo 3 times: result alike.

Frustration is even deeper than before.........

My system: P 150 Gateway bought April 96, overclocked to 166 MHz, RAM 80Mo
EDO of course ), 6.4 Go WD HDD, 4Mo Matrox Millenium video card +- 4Mo 3Dfx
Diamond Monster, 17+ACI- Philips monitor, F1 Thrustmaster wheel and pedals, Win
98.

Direct X 5 already installed.

I have chosen to install the demo files on a 2.1 Go secondary HDD. Could
this be a trouble?

Apart from business uses, I usually run on this system NFS I and II, as well
as NetworkQ Rally and International Rally Championship. With a sufficiently
exciting output.

I am not sure at all the system itself is guilty, maybe I miss some tricks
as far as the installation process is concerned.

Any help would be welcome

Thanks

GPL Demo troubles

The demo seems to have a compatibility issue with Win98. There may be a
fix, but I don't know what it is (I'm still running Win95). The final
version does not have this issue. Check some GPL sites to see if they
have a fix.

The sound used in the demo is actually just a placeholder sound from
NASCAR2, I believe. The final sounds are the real thing.
