Hi!

Whats the best racing wheel for GPL (without Force Feedback)?
Somebody told me the Thrustmaster Formula One isn't availabe anymore?
Is this true?
I`m thinking about getting the TM Formula Sprint
or TM Nascar Super Sports.

BTW: Does GPL run with Voodoo 3?

Thanks

Well i have the TM Sprint and...while its a good wheel...the pedals leave alot
to be desired.  If it were a perfect world i could buy the TM Super Sport
pedals seperate and use them with my Sprint wheel.  But alas its not a perfect.
Best advice is to look around in stores and find what has the best feel to
you.

And yes...GPL runs excently on a Voodoo3.

I've tried and owned many wheels. To date, the most accurate non-FF wheel
I've tried is the MadCatz Andretti wheel. It is the only wheel that I
switched to (including my current Ferrari FF wheel) where I actually
decreased lap times. Its digital, has a stick shifter and paddle shifters
(well, big buttons on the back of the wheel, really) and the pedal base is
real good (about 12 pounds). The pedals are the highest quality, but the
travel is too much, with the last 1/4 of travel being dead space. But this
is easily fixed by putting stoppers to shorten the throw. The rim of the
wheel is a nice hard *** and nicely shaped, but its not padded enough.
Its a little better than a TM Nascar Pro wheel. The stick shifter has an
excellent knob. All in all, for accurate driving, this wheel has it. Keep in
mind, I have not tried the non-FF Act Labs wheel. Oh, on a possible down
side, it doesn't support split axis on the pedals. To some people this
matters.

Best racing wheel for GPL

I've used a TM sprint for about a year. Its quite good value and
still works. The pedals are a bit small and suffer from being on
the same axis (i.e. some games may fail to detect the difference
between releasing the acellerator and braking).

Also, I had to contact thrustmaster support to obtain a replacement
set of pedals when one of the potentiometers for the pedals starting
getting "noisy". Thrustmaster support were extremely good, but
I am beginning to see a similar problem emerge with the new pedal
base. You can avoid using the pedals by using the pedals behind
the wheel as a split axis accellerator and brake - but I've never found
this intuitive.

On reflection, the TM sprint is a good wheel - but its a budget item.
If buying again, I would probably ensure I find better pedals with
spilt axes.

Yeah....well you can't never be fast with single axis...so skip the idea and
get one with split axis :)

Lutz, some track records are held by a guy using a joystick to drive. I
assure you it doesn't have split axis. And I don't thing the MS FF does
either.

Go for the Super Sport over the Sprint.  The pedals are excellent on the
Super Sport and the steering I feel is more precise than the Sprint.
There is a new 'digital' USB wheel from Thrustmaster that seems to be a
combination of the TM  Formula 1 and the Super Sport for about the same
price.

% BTW: Does GPL run with Voodoo 3?

Yes, very well.

Microsoft FF has split axis.  In my opinion, trying to get good at GPL is
gonna be real hard without a split axis controller.  And if it's within the
guy's budget, it's silly (imo) to recommend to the contrary.

Also, I'd be willing to bet that all the fast guys who drive with sticks use
separate split axis pedals for brake and throttle.

Wolfgang I think uses pedals and a stick.  The pedals are split axis if I
am correct, but I am just assuming since I have never met the man or seen
his setup,  I have only heard rumors.
