Yeah and MSFF sure is _also with_ split axis, unlike mister Slotcar thinks
;)

Kurt,

I yield to your superior knowledge of the game. As I am new to GPL (but not
to racing) I assumed that more precise steering would be more beneficial
than split axis, especially since Wolfgang uses a stick. I never considered
that he could have split axis pedals with it.

I bet with an hour's time and $10 worth of parts, I could wire an Andretti
wheel for switchable split axis. If you've never tried one, its incredibly
accurate. Of course the trouble with all the wheels I own and have used,
I've only used one of each (except for the CH EXL500s which I used to
package with the computers I sold) so they could vary in quality.

Rumor is Wolfgang is not from this planet so he doesn't count. The more I get
into gpl the more I learn that you drive with your feet, and I can't imagine
ever getting really good at it with single axis pedals.

Here's a great page for wiring diagrams and home built wheels in general.

Has the MS Precision Wheel spit axis or not??
Asking the other way: Is the MS Precision Wheel identical to the
MS FF but without FF??

Thanks!

Because of the wacky way that I must configure my controls to get them to
work in tandem, I have my CH pedals configured for single axis.  I use a MS
Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick hooked up through USB and a CH Flightstick
and pedals hooked to the gameport because that was the only way I could get
the pedals to work properly without rewiring (just laziness on my part!).
That gives me so many possible axises (is that proper usage? :-)) that the
pedals can only be on a single axis set-up although I dont use the CH stck
at all except for it's connector.  To make a long story only slightly
shorter - I ran a personal best last week in the high 1:26's at monza and
run 1:28s and 29's pretty regularly - so it is possible to go fast on one
axis pedals.  Most fast guys that I chat with talk about trail braking into
Parabolica being important to consistently fast times though and split axis
pedals help immensly when trail braking, so I guess I'm going to have to
break down and rewire my pedals after all. I do agree that Wolfgang is
simply beyond human comparison though - and I use his setups all the time
because they work extremely well for people using a joystick instead of a
wheel - although I can't figure out why I'm not as fast as he is if we are
using the same setups.............hmmmm.  (not really! LOL)
