N2 on new computer

Hello all, I just bought a brand-spankin' new Dell XPS PII 233. It has
32 mb SDRAM, 512k cache, ... yadda yadda. And an STB Velocity 128 video
card. When I try to install N2, it won't let me install uniVBE and I get
a message saying that it couldn't find a SuperVGA chip. Ok, so I run it,
and it seems to run fine until I click on "Race". The computer freezes.
So I reboot and try to run it again, and the screen just goes blank when
your'e supposed to see the Papyrus logo. I'm thinking its lack of the
amount of conventional memory  I have. After running dosstart, I have
only 530k of conventional RAM.
Does anyone know if either the low RAM or the STB card is giving  me
this problem? I've even  tried reinstalling, but no luck. I'd very much
appreciate any info given to me.

Thanks - Adrian

I am "still" considering buying a Dell. Similar to the one you have but the 266
P2.  I'm interested in the final outcome of your delima and hope it get's
resolved quickly.  The only help I can offer is for you to make your own icon
pointing to N2 and in the properties of that icon take out all un-needed
drivers and such so as to give you more available lower memory.  You probably
only need sound driver, mouse, cd rom ------ himem.sys and don't foget to use
the load hi (LH) command.  There are people who are much better at all this
than I and hopefully some of them will reply in greater detail.  Let me know
 how it turns out.  :)

1. Make sure that you've got your CD in your pc if you utilize the N2.Bat file
to launch Nascar 2. The first thing that happens with this command is a search
for the CD in order to play the introduction. I have seen a number of new
*Fast* systems that fail to display the error message 'Smkplay.into not found
 - Abort Retry or Fail" (because of their speed!) and freeze with a blank black
 screen.

2. Uninstall the software, and do a DOS installation. Your Dell PC may be
equipped with some propritary memory manager by Dell that is hogging memory in
a DOS session. Reload and and start the game from DOS

3. Create a N2 Boot Diskette. The instructions on doing this are listed on the
N2 CD in a .txt file

says...

starting n2 under dos or win95 ?? univbe doesnt work, sure if the card is this
new. have got the same prob with my ati pc2tv rage 2. 530k should be enough to
run, maybe emm386 makes the prob. (n2 uses dos4gw which doesnt like emm386
that much). drop me an e-mail and please be more specific.

This might be a little different but I bought a new Dell Inspiron 3000
laptop. pentium 200 with 32 meg of ram. I tried to install Nascar2 on
it and when I tried to run it the screen was real spotty and could not
make out anything. It has a 128 bit graphics card that will run 1024 x
768
16 bit color. I run a Dell p100 at home and is fine. Let me know how
it turns out. I have not had any trouble with my dell for 3 years and
in the future would buy another.

I recently purchased a Dell XPS 300 with an STB Velocity 128 and was
having similar problems.  After downloading new drivers for the graphics
card from stb's website (think its www.stb.com) the game started right
up.  Hope this helps.
