Get Rid of Restrictor Plates?

Just got N4-rather impressed.  How do I get
rid of the restrictor plates at Daytona and 'Dega?
You used to be able to delve into the text file that
comes with each track, and there would be a 1
or 0 - 0 would toggle off the plates.  Said option
doesn't seem to be there anymore-is there another
way to do it?  TIA.

Check out the forum at legendscentral.com, the N4 section.  Someone posted
something about disabling the plates there.  A simple change in the track.ini I
believe.

Sorry, don't know, but I don't know what a restrictor
plate is either :) What is it?

Restrictor plates are the things NASCAR uses to
limit speeds at Daytona and Talladega-they have smaller
holes in the fuel feed into the carburetor, thus 'restricting'
horsepower.  This is why qualifying speeds today (in the
real world ;-) are c. 180-182 MPH (well that and some
extra drag they added to the cars).  Without them I and
the AI cars were turning 210+ MPH laps...
Got the change-you need to go into the tracks' text
file (it's in their respective folders) and change "track type"
and "chassis" to 2 and 2.  Oddly when you try to race in
arcade mode the plates come back into effect-dunno how
to fix that...

I've always thought restrictor plates were placed between the carb and
the manifold, to restrict fuel-air mixture into the engine, rather than
limiting fuel into the carb. Have I misunderstood this? (I'm a techie,
so I just have to know)

you're right.  the holes are smaller than the throttle bores.  not
sure, but they're about 15/16 or 7/8 inch.

Get Rid of Restrictor Plates?

Hi Stefan,

I too was always under the impression that restrictor plates had a specific
diameter orifice to restrict air/fuel mixture into the intake manifold. I
would have thought limiting fuel flow as John DiFool has mention would run
the risk of leaning out and destroying rather expensive race engines.
