ok here is the quote from your message:

<startquote>

Btw: I wonder where David F got the 'all-mighty' info that detailed this?
"The
best race car drivers in the world are F1 drivers" &!! "F1 drivers come from
a world wide talent pool of 6 billion people." I'd love to hear all the so
called
expert info with true backup on these comments! hahahahaha!!

<endquote>

You quote him twice, once on best drivers in world, the other on f1 drivers
coming from a talent pool of 6 billion people.  But yet then you go to say
you want to know where David got this information, as if you are questioning
his statement.  So you obviously feel that F1 drivers do not come from a
world wide talent pool.  Maybe you can clarify...I took a stab at it
thinking maybe you feel there aren't 6 billion people in the world...or
maybe you feel that only 1 billion have any remote chance of being talented
racing a car...or maybe you feel that only a few thousand have the talent
along with the money and all they need is a little luck.  You questioned his
statement and I took a stab at why...but yet you feel I need brain pills...

hey maybe you just forgot that you quoted him twice, and then I am wondering
why you are telling ME to re-read your post.

f1 drivers come from a talent pool of about 10000 how many of those 6million
actualy start carting by the time they are 10 then get the backing to be
competative, then get the backing to get into full size racing in a
competative car. Actualy thinking about it it's probably more like 1000.

I was under the impression that a lot of those driving aids had been
outlawed.

As far as I know, power steering has never been allowed in F1, which is why
all the drivers have to be extremely fit - those cars generate more G-forces
than practically any other kind of car.

F1 is extremely technically advanced, and I'd agree that the engineers (and
all the rest of the team) deserve a big slice of the credit when theirs cars
win, but that isn't to belittle the drivers - they are at the top of their
profession.

The young guys coming in are extremely good because they are the pick of the
crop.

Maybe the reason they can get straight in the car and go fast is that a lot
of them practice with computer games - Juan Montoya at least is a GPL fan!

They are not easy to drive two or three years ago Tommi Makinen and Mick
Doohan were given a drive in the williams and nither of them managed a
single lap without spining. Granted that was a few years ago but the cars
had more downforce and grip then last years hars that Button drove. Also
traction control is not alowed untill later this season, the young drivers
are doing so well because they are talented and have been driveing since
they could walk.

Interesting comments Txl.. The bottom line is 99.9% of us will never get
to race "F1, Nascar, Cart, IRL" etc as either we do not have the money
nor the talent. Yes we all enjoy sim-computer racing but the real deal in
real-life is another matter. I just love all these posts about who does this
or that & most of us {yes us!} have never raced in this cailber of racing
in real-life. Relax guyzz will ya??!! Phew... <G>

Quick compare between "EUROPE" and "NASCAR" drivers

I put europe between "" because I will include people like villeneuve or
montoya which are not europeans at all.

It is true that NASCAR is very "closed" to foreigners, CART or indy light
(whatever it is called these days) is much more "opened", I have numerous
example of "average" european drivers that went to cart successfully and
that were not really "top" in F1 or european series (F3, F3000....)

You can't argue the fact that Mansell, Zanardi, Montoya were very successful
in cart after coming from "European" races, on the other NOBODY ever goes to
NASCAR (because they just don't want to accept anybody from the outside) and
very few people are coming from CART into F1 with success (villeneuve
doesn't count because he "learned" to race in the "European" series.

So maybe you can say that F1 although an arcade game is much more difficult
to win (not to race) than cart, the last time a TRUE cart pilot came to F1
was M.Andretti, without too muh success, altough bieng in the same team as
Senna surely didn't help him to gain confidence, the last US world champion
in F1 is Andretti in 78, Cheever did some good stuff in the mid 80's but he
obviously wasn't able to beat Prost, Alboreto and other leading drivers of
the time.

Make any conclusions you want but I think it is easy to overestimate NASCAR
drivers because they is no way you can compare them to other drivers, they
don't go into other categories and other categories drivers don't come to
nascar...

One more point about "F1 drivers would be scared about 30-pack races to the
last lap", never forget that nascar and cart races are ARTIFICIALLY close,
you have yellow flags every 5 minutes (good for commercials on TV) and with
"restrictor plate" in nascar it is even closer than that, I don't say it is
good or bad, I am just pointing out that US racing is ARTIFICIALLY close for
television purposes...the show, always the show...

Ok, let the flaming begin

You're right - there's a lot wrong. The main skills for driving a modern
F1 car are quick reflexes and stamina. That's why the young, fit guys do
so well - the skills of someone like Stirling Moss, lay in other areas;
courage, finesse, mastery of oversteer and the art of the 4-wheel drift.

Now it's just a matter of timing braking to a fraction of a second and
judging corner entry speeds precisely. Traction control and downforce do
all the rest.
