GeForce FSAA question

by Race15 » Fri, 16 Feb 2001 15:35:49

I have a Geforce 256 (32meg) and a Voodoo2 card on my Dell p3 600 with 256 ram
and sblive.  I upgraded to the new Detonator 3 drivers tonight and for the
first time I tried FSAA by going to the display/settings/advanced/geforce and
moving the dial from none to 4 x 4 (figureing to see nice graphics but a strong
FPS hit)  Nothing changed in N4 or GPL.  Changed to 2  x  2, still nothing.
Went back to the original (no FSAA) settings and still no difference.
V-sync is off in OpenGL (I dont have an option for it in the Geforce settings)
and N4 has always run better in D3D, which seems to go against the grain in the
newsgroups.  With sliders down to 25 to 50 percent I get around 40 fps offline
from the back of the pack at Dega, so no real  problems with FPS but I would
like to know why FSAA isnt working in D3D on the GeForce card.  Is there a
problem running the Voodoo2 card with it?  Also, what is all the hulabaloo
about the new D-3 drivers?  Didn't gain one single FPS in N4.
Any help would be appreciated
TIA
Mike

This isn't an Elsa card by any chance?  I upgraded to an Elsa Gladiac
GeForce 2 Ultra 64Mb from a Voodoo3 2000 yesterday and had a similar
problem.  Initially the FSAA worked, theen I rebooted and it stopped
working.  It turned out that I had enabled the 3D Stereo option for the 3D
Revelator glasses which came with the card.  This option cannot be used with
FSAA on so the FSAA option was automatically disabled.  If you have an Elsa
card switch 3D Stereo off.

Cheers

Phil

You also have to check the little box for forcing FSAA in all apps.

I dont know if its an "elsa" card.  It came with the Dell System when I bought
it a year ago.  Just says NVidia GeForce 256. And yes, I do have the "Force All
Apps" checked.
Anything else I can try?
Thanks

You'll have to reboot after changing FSAA settings...
