FFB or NOT???

by Skeet » Sat, 29 Jul 2000 04:00:00

I moved and was away from GPL for the whole of 1999.First thing I did
when I got a new PC was buy a LWFF since my other wheel was in another
state:(

First thing I have noticed is that I felt more control of the car with
FFB (and still do)and have been driving with it for about 5 months
now. What suprises me is that I was faster with a non-forcefeedback
wheel.My best at Zandvoort was a 1:24:87 and I cant break a 1:26..now

I was actually fastest with my old beat up Thrustmaster which I had a
super tight bungee on.My next wheel had a loose feel to it and I didnt
feel comfortable with it and was slower by a sec or two.I prefer a
real tight center notch in my wheel so I can physically feel when my
wheels are perfectly straight. This I believe helps me to feel when the
car starts to oversteer since I have to forcefully countersteer past
this center notch(signalling to me that the rears are coming around).

Now I have been reading about all these top sim makers saying they
dont like FFB and rather use a nonFFB wheel???They say that the
hardware still isnt ready.should I go back to a nonFFB wheel????I
tried it with my LWFF but since it has no "feelable"center notch I was
lost.Whats everyone opinion on this FFB or not dilema I am having?

Thanks for the replies.

I've never used FFB and was looking into getting one, but after
reading that article I'm now not so sure I want one. I have a MSPR USB
wheel and it has the centre notch and quite good pedals so maybe I'm
better off with what I have for now. Try the Microsoft Precision
Racing Wheel from somewhere you can return it if you don't like it.
That's probably the best way to deicide for yourself.

FFB or NOT???

Hi Dale,

Gosh it seems the FF is SO subjective. This is my first time on this NewsGroup
and I like the content thus far.  If you like you can take a look at an article
I wrote on my feelings on FF.

Thanks Guys for the advice.Victor I have read your article and found
it very informative. It was one of the articles that made me write this
post. The new R4 looks like a wheel I may have to try out.You said that
it tightened up to a realistic tension and I was wondering if it could
be tightened more then ten turns.I like a super stiff wheel that other
people will say tires out their arms. Also does it have a strong center
notch feel to it?Thanks for the info.
