I also decided to buy F1, despite what people had said here. MAJOR
MISTAKE. This is by far the worst driving game I've ever played. Yes,
the graphics looked great, but everything else was ----.
When I tried to run the 3DFX specific version, the screen was
extremely dark, no matter how I adjusted the monitor brightness, or the
gamma settings for my Monster 3D.
At Hockenheim (I tried that because it is an 'easy' track) it was very
annoying watching the trees being drawn as I raced. Even at the NINJA
setting.
The game set the CD and WAVE volume levels to MAXIMUM. I could adjust
the various digital sound levels, but there appeared to be no way to set
the CD music volume outside of a race. I would prefer to be using the
menus without any sound at all.
I tried both my Sidewinder 3D Pro, and a Thrustmaster T2, and found
the driving unusual. The throttle was very coarse. There was no idle, it
sounded like the engine was off if you weren't touching the pedals. In
fact, the car did not coast down when you let off the throttle. It
stopped. (I had the throttle and braking aids OFF.) Also, in the 3DFX
version, there was no driving guide line.
The car setup was limited to a simple 4 or 5 step downforce
adjustment. No way to adjust front or rear separately.
Unfortunately, no place around here will let you return opened
software. After about 30 minutes of fiddling around, and lots of
cursing, I destroyed it.
