LFS! Ok, not a great surprise given their sound engine. However this
really is worse than a bad thing on national lousy day.

However, something weird happened when I was testing the car... I found
I could "feel" the limits and catch the car far more easily than in any
modern F1-style car I've driven in a sim. Not easy as in
over-simplified, but easier as in manageable. Maybe its something to do
with the new tyre physics? No idea. But it was rather pleasant all the
same.

However I was reminded again how spoiled I've been by GTL's AI. Those
drivers are far more fun to race against than those in LFS or rFactor.

You could always race against GPL's AI and watch the leaders leave you
in the dust.

Really? The fault with GPL's AI was that they were too soft at racing
you and couldn't cope with backmarkers. A reasonable challenge though.

Ok, that was a bit demoralising. But nowhere near as demoralising as
watching LFS's AI crash into you or themselves every few seconds. I am
freshly reminded that I gave up LFS because (a) online was usually full
of muppets (whenever I tried it anyway, but then that's pick-up racing
for you) and (b) offline the AI was never satisfying to drive against.

Back to my GTL Mini I think... though recently I've been enjoying the
maxxed out rFactor saloon car at the Ring. There is something about the
sound in rFactor which keeps drawing me back.

You should try online open speedway racing in NR2003. Don't need
any AI's to have a crash fest. Before I abandoned NR2003 online
racing (too many other good games now to spend on just one), I
came up with a good no collision cheat. I have a switcher between
my computer and my cable modem, and the switcher can cycle back
on almost instantly. So I setup a power switch for the switcher.

During a race, if I saw a crash fest, I would turn off the
switcher to disconnect for a few seconds, then reconnect after
I estimated I was past the "car"-nage. Worked great. The best
time I had with this was with a deliberate wrecker in a small
pit (about 6 players) he had hit 4 other cars but couldn't hit
mine.

It's a simulation, and maybe it's just doing a good job of simulating
online racing?

I offer my hearty concurrence. These sounds whistle Dixie.

Ahh... still comparing stuff with something that was programmed a _decade_
ago.

You have lost all credibility in this NG.  What a ***ing moron.

First you left out this part:

I only did this as an experiement before I quit NR2003 open server
online racing. I saw other players doing this, and I just was trying
to figure out how I could do the same. It's not something new.

Credibility? Are you stating that this won't work?
My post is credible. You may not like it, but it's credible.

A league player wouldn't use this cheat because the replay would make
it obvious what was going on, and does any serious NR2003 player care
about open server play (even some of the open servers check replays)?

As for myself, I haven't played NR2003 online in over a year. Running
the same ovals with fixed setups can get a bit boring, and winning
is mostly a factor of learning to qualify, pit well, working with
a team and crash avoidance. If I was serious, I would have joined a
league, but I'm just not that interested in running ovals. When I got
NR2003, I only used the Trans Am cars on road courses, mostly the GPL
conversions using Dave Noonan's program. I went online having never
raced in a cup car or on an oval and won my first race on my 3rd
session (2nd night) of online play, so there's not a lot of skill
involved. I don't play NR2003 much at all anymore, but when I do,
it's just the Trans-Am or GTP cars on road courses offline.

That's right, GPL is still a great game.
