dead zone utility problem

by John Moor » Thu, 06 May 1999 04:00:00

Hmmm, I think I screwed up. (surprise!) I d/l the dead zone utility and
changed my dead zone so my wheel would work better in Superbike. Worked
fine until I did something I haven't done in months. I decided to fly a
little Red Baron so I plugged in my joystick and developed a big
problem. In win 95 control panel when I click on the game controller
icon nothing happens, I can open TMs propanel but get error msgs. So now
I can't use any type of controller!!!  I'm thinking I screwed up my
dinput.dll. My question is.. how many files/places contain dinput.dll?,
does the deadzone utility change them all? if I didn't correctly backup
my dinput.dll what should I do? and of course... is that the problem?
I would appreciate any input on this because I can't drive anything!
Thanks, JM

Have you tried resetting dinput.dll back to 5% using your utility?

Alternatively there should be back up in the windows\sysbckup folder - just
copy it back to windows\system.

Failing all that go to http://www.wingmanteam.com/ and download dxtweak from
the 'Gadgets' page. It shows all kinds of information about joystick
readings as well as allowing deadzone and sensitivity modifications. Also
you can restore the default values.

As a last resort - you may have to reinstall win98 - wait a moment, just a
thought - in the resources of your game port what are the settings? Should
read 0201 - 0207 or something with 201 in it.

Hope this helps - Good luck.

With the right setup I'm just as fast as the man behind...
