EA Sports has a NASCAR deal?

I just read on http://www.racesimcentral.net/ about EA Sports coming out with
Nascar98... sounds like another arcade game, *NOT* a simulation.  How
does this affect Papyrus and a possible Nascar3?

I know how bad the licensing has been for Indy and Daytona.  I can't
imagine there being much hope in having EA Sports doing "THE" Nascar
simulation...

The licensing for NASCAR 98 is probably just for consoles, but who knows.
Papyrus did'nt renew the CART licenses or did they lose it. Sony is coming
out with CART WORLD SERIES for the playstation ( may i remind all people of
R.A.S. they have over 40 billion in the bank & EA has a ton too ).My
question to Papyrus is what are you gona lose next the NASCAR licenses ?
Does the merger between Sierra & CUC give you the backing to keep it ? I
hope so!!---mack

Maybe they have somebody else making it for them.
Didn't they market the original Indy 500 sim?
I saw screen shots of a game called Andretti Racing
(www.gamecenter.com). It showed both a NASCAR and IndyCar racing (not
together) through city streets.
Totally feasible in an IndyCar, not so in a stock car.
I wonder if this is the game you're talking about?

No, it's a 3dfx game. Announced at e3.

Bzzzt thanks for playing.  Nascar98 is a console game (Playstation/Saturn).
It was Andretti Racing that was being shown on a 3Dfx PC.

My mistake, sorry. There seems to be so many racers under development
it's hard to keep track of them all. :-)

Pc and Playstation actualy. This game will be the one for your youngsters...
There's no way EA will take the time to outdo Papy in this game. In fact EA
makes it sound like there is no competition in this field, which IMO is the
farthest thing from the truth. Nascar 2 is so good that it quite possibly be
the best program for it's genre available. To me that's extreme stiff
competition.

I think they need to make sure they make a good Madden for the PC before they
think about new projects...

No, it's for the Playstation only. They are not releasing a PC version
of NASCAR 98, not anytime soon.

Let's clear this up. NASCAR 98 is for consoles AND PC. Both are currently in
testing. Andretti PC is basically the PSX/Saturn port with the usual PC
enhancements, and testing begins around August.

Who has the 40 billion in the bank? Papyrus? CART? EA? Sony? Where did
that figure come from? (I'm assuming straight from your nether
regions...)

This is perhaps the most common misconception around here; that EVERYONE
in a company needs to work on fixing an existing or forthcoming product
before any new projects can be started.

The Mongolian Hoards technique is proven not to work, and I suspect that
whomever is working on NASCAR 98 doesn't have much to offer the Madden
team. Plus, the last thing that would improve the Madden team is having
all 100 or 400 or 800 or however many developers EA has "working" on
it...

I read that SONY CORP has over 40 billion in the bank from the mag Next
Generation. ( dont remember what issue JIMMY BOY ) I got a good chuckle out
of you using 40 billion & papyrus in the same sentence. We would have
daytona if it was true. My nether regions have nothing to do with the fact

Here is a reply I got from Tony at Papyrus, replying to whether
Papyrus has lost the rights to NASCAR.

-->

No, we have not lost the rights to NASCAR.  NASCAR gave EA the rights
because it will expand their (NASCAR's) market share in the game
industry.  I think EA's press release is a bit misleading in this
regard.

Thanks,
Tony
