What's with RASCAR?

by Don » Tue, 03 Sep 2002 13:32:49

At the _extreme_ risk of a flaming, I can't help but ask: why can't you
RASCAR people get your own ListServ or newsgroup? When I was with SOAR we
had our own Mailing list where info was disseminated. Right now I have over
1200 (that's one THOUSAND, two HUNDRED) messages with RASCAR in the subject
line.
Now, luckily I'm on broadband, but I've been on the dialup end of things...
I know what it's like to download 2000 messages from RAS at a time.
All I'm asking is get your own listserv and put out your schedule changes
and finishes, etc. there - not here.

somebody tried to get  another email group going for rascar, but since
everyone couldn't agree on Yahoo or even changing newsgroups, they kinda
figured since everyone was already here....they might as well stay.

Again, just use your newsreader (which I see that yours is Outlook Express)
and filter out the word "RASCAR" from this newsgroup.  Please note that
content is barely <5% of this newsgroup, and is completely related itself to
the newsgroup, to the same point as LFS or whatever other sim on the market.

It's on topic and shouldn't be disallowed.

No.

RASCAR is not a league. It's a way for people from r.a.s.
to get together and race. Simple as that. We are using N2002 because it has
the best online code, but any sim that has good online code could be used in
the future.

There are no points, or a championship to be won. No prizes. No bragging
rights, sponsorship, etc.

R.a.s. is about auto simulators, and supposedly the people who frequent this
newsgroup are very serious and enthusiastic about auto sims. Online racing
is a key ingredient that most of us hope will be included in all auto sims
in the near future. It only makes sense then that we should get together and
race each other, and then discuss those races here at r.a.s.

I might add to David's response......that RASCAR is something of a
micro-cosm of things that go on daily in the sim racing world.   Many of the
"problems" with RASCAR are part of all sim racing leagues.  Most of the
discussion is about sim racing in RASCAR, but it applies to all of sim
racing without regard to the type of racing, or the simulation software
even.  It is my personal opinion that as long as "your ticket into a RASCAR
race" is simply the fact that you are a visitor to this newsgroup.....makes
the "topic" of RASCAR very much appropriate for general discussion here.

That's just my opinion, however.

Regards,

Tom

It's mainly interjection from non-racing, outside influences that is causing
this.  Normally we have our weekly discussion, then it's on to the next one.

Cupid Dolls are those little Cupid Dolls on a stick that were given away as
prizes at fairs and carnivals etc.
It is just an expression "Give the man a Cupid Doll" . Might even be spelt
Cupey, I am not sure. It is pronounced Q pee.
The expression Just means "Well Done".
See, and people say that you never learn anything on Ras :-)

Sorry just made a mistake with the spell checker. The reply should have
read:
