SCGT vs. GPL

Hi All

I've been a newbie GPLer for a few months now. I've read a lot of posts about
SCGT saying how good it is.

I'd like to buy it but I want to know how it would compare to GPL.
ie. Now that I'm used to GPL-quality would I be disappointed by SCGT?

The tintop cars look like a lot of fun and the huge amount of add-ons look
really good too.

Any opinions?

I own both, GPL is far far superior and I didn't have to download 40 megs of
junk to make it playable. SCGT is not even close to GPL. No one THAT I KNOW
that is good at GPL thinks SCGT is worth a crap.

Well they are completely different games really.  GPL does a great job of
modelling kate 60s F1 cars.  the AI is very good too.  SCGT does a good job
of modeling modern GT cars.  Lots of addons that help game along.  Where
else can you run a Mini, a 917, a 956, a 512M and the new cars like the
Caddy LMP, the Panoz LMP and the LeMans winning Audis.  The AI well it
sucks, too slow in the corners even when you get the diff setting up high.
It does have some problems but overall its a very fun game.  Also since its
like 15 bucks now well its not a waste of money.  I enjoy it for one reason
over GPL.  I do not need to speed hours practising to stay on top of the
cars.  With the new tracks coming out its also going to be very well
supported by thrid parties.  I have over 150 megs of addon cars alone and
well 3 addon tracks.  Bathurst is a blast.  It can be as enjoyable as you
want and as serious as you want.  The only problem is the AI.  I wish that
could be solved since offline the majority of the fun I have is running in
a league.

Is it on the level that GPL, well probly not since you can pick it up and
run pretty fast pretty quickly where GPL takes a while to get good, heck a
while to just keep it on the track.  I would say the fun rating overall is
better then in GPL, but for a serious sim racer GPL is still the standard.

The physics model is more forgiving, but it is more fun as far as dicing with
the cpu drivers and racing strategy, because you spend less time worrying about
avoiding spinouts and more time actually concentrating on competing. It's a
better single player game than GPL, unless you prefer trying to shave seconds
off your lap times. For multiplayer GPL is more fun since you are competing
against humans who have to fight against those same squirrely car physics. Also
check out VIPER racing , its a great bargain for an excellent game.

SCGT is cheap and where else can you get a decent version of Mt. Panorama
at Bathurst?  Think of SCGT like a big used racing car lot.  You can buy
Ferrari's , Porche's, Jordans, Audi's, BMW's and on and on...Vipers too...
It sure doesn't have the feel of GPL but with the Advanced options editor,
you get a bit more sim like.

Speaking from experience....   GPL is by far the best.  But SCGT is also
pretty good.   It's not as detailed or complex as GPL, but it is a lot of
fun and with all the addons for it, you can totally customise it to suit
your style of racing.

Some that GPL doesn't do.  But then, GPL does what it does so well.. who can
blame it  :-)

If you can get SCGT cheap.. then get it..  Then download the addons.. it's
worth it....

SCGT vs. GPL

I don't claim to be good at GPL but I own both games and GPL is far superior
. I've also downloaded masses for SCGT . It's ridiculous that you should
have to d/l 32mb just to get a ***y dash for each car and even then it's
not custom made for each one . The physics has never felt right for me
either . Maybe I haven't adjusted the settings for the wheel properly but it
lacks the precision of GPL. SCGT is fine in principle but lacking in
execution . Hopefully WSC will be the definitive sportscar game .

Thanks for the opinions people.

I'll wait until I can get it nice and cheap, then give it a try.
