Could anybody help me with my sound problem. I have a SB128 Pci sound card
and for some reason
the sound in GPL cuts in and out and i don't know
why. Before this card i had a SB16 and i don't remember having this problem,
is this card no good
for this game.
Thanks Steve!

I don't recall the technical reasons but it is known that the sb pci 128 card
doesn't work
very well with GPL. If you just got it, return it and get the sb live value.

You have an alternative to exchanging your sound card. You need to get the
"16 bit" sound file. I have the same card and it works fine now. By the way
I had this problem only in GPL.

See the following copy from the readme.txt file and go to the website listed
below.

If you play GPL with a Sound Blaster PCI128 soundcard you will have a very
bad sound with some cars (Lotus, Eagle). In fact the sound seems too loud
and there is a distortion.
Since there is not yet a solution given by Sierra or Creative Labs I tried
to find what was wrong and find that Cosworth sound was in 8 bits (others
are 16) and with a very high output level. I just modified these elements
(no new sounds, just the original ones) and now it sounds OK with the last
drivers.

How to install it ?

Simply replace your old sound.dat in Sierra/GPL/sound/ by this one.

Will this CM_GPLsound.zip file work for Sb PCI64 as it will for PCI128?
Only difference I know of between 64 & 128 is 64 midi sounds. TIA

I wanted to say thanks for the help, it now works great.
Steve!

Hey, speak of the devil! Good of you to show up, and thanks for for your help. It certainly was cheaper than buying a new sound card.

What is the SB Live sound card like? Eventually I will be putting together another PC and it's good to know how well various components work.

Tore

    Hello Fellow R.A.S.ers
Cyril; I wanted to post to tell you that I bought the SB Live sound
card today & will not need CM_GPLsound.zip file but good luck
to all who do! We all know how wacky these PCs can be when
we least expect or want it... ya know ?? ;0)

SBlive is fine for ***, but currently has no Linux support
(although an early alpha can be had from 4front. Creative has
pledged linux support for all their products, but it might
take a while before all the bells and whistles are supported.

cheers,

But, GPL hasn't got any 3d sound? Or am I wrong? The extra two speakers
give a more immersing environment, it doesn't add to the functionality?
like hearing the buzzing Lotus behind you?
