Patch for F1 2002?

by Larry Lindstro » Tue, 01 Apr 2003 11:15:42

Hi Experts:

   I finally decided to get F1 2002, it's $10.00 now.

Are there patches for this?  I looked at
www.easportsf1.com.  I got in the "PC" page and
hit the download button.  The only choice that
popped up "Demo".

I'm hoping there is a patch, because I've already
locked the game, and had to power off to regain
control of my PC.

My video card is a Voodoo 5500, and the F1 2002
install required DX 8.1 upgrade.  Is there a problem
with this combination?

                                              Thanks
                                              Larry

No patches for F1 2k2.  It should work with your combo.  Make sure the
fsaa is off in d3d.  There are dx8 compliant drivers for that card.
Hopefully somebody will add to this and name specific drivers.
some hints for getting it going....make sure most if not all your
graphic options are set to low.  Including pit crew and cars.  You may
later try increasing some of the graphic effects once you get the sim
running.  Use 16bit color in the 3dconfig.  Have your desktop also set to
16bit color, This shouldn't be a problem tho, cuz the V5 doesn't do 32 bit
does it?  I suspect getting a different driver will be the key...How much
ram and what speed cpu do you have?

No patch.

It would be nice if they released one that fixed the lame-ass netcode
though.

No.  I was able to run the game just fine with that combination.  Have fun!

A little bird told me that fans of the F12Kx series (and mods like GTR) will
be very pleasantly surprised by F1 Challenge.

Care to shed a little more light on that?  I have seen the press releases
and it certainly looks interesting, but what I am wondering is will they fix
the netcode?

Patch for F1 2002?

Thanks Dave:

I'm not sure I can lower the graphics too much.
The sim displays computer generated women with large
***s and nice butts standing in front of each car
when the race starts in the high level graphics mode.
There is a limit to what I'm willing to give up. : )

I've turned off AA, and things seem to be fine now.

Because of my modest processor power, I'm running
at 1024 x 768 x 16.  At that low res, I've maxed all
the graphics and things seem to be running fine.

My PC is an old dual P3 600 pre-coppermine running
Win98 SE for sims.  It also runs Solaris and Win2K
which use it's second processor.  Are the Win2k Voodoo
drivers capable of running sims?  I have a 3D Maptech
program that draws and rotates topo maps in 3D.  It's
a Win98 application that runs much faster on Win 2k, I
suppose because the second processor offloads system
tasks.  Is anyone running sims on multiprocessor
systems under Win 2K?  I have an analog ECCI wheel if
that makes a difference.

I've noticed the "Y" key doesn't restart the race.
Am I doing something wrong?  I hate sitting around
while the track reloads just to restart a race.

Most of the site's I've bookmarked for F1 2001 seem
to be gone.  The Pits has a nice F1 2002 page, but I
don't see carsets and car setups there.  What are the
recommended Formula One mods?

                                                  Thanks
                                                  Larry

Are you talking about the license limitations Bernie
is believed to enforce?

I don't read RAC regularly, but every once in a while
someone says Ubi is going to release a non-licensed open
wheel racing sim.  Third parties can then create carsets
and other mods.  Such a sim would be free of limits
imposed by FOCA.  What's the latest word on this?

I know few of you have much respect for NFS/PU, but I
do race that online every weekend.  Given a choice
between excellent physics modeling or excellent head to
head online racing, I'll choose online racing.  So I'm
interested in combining these two experiences in one
sim.

Thanks MadDAWG:

I've looked for this on Deja the links I saw were
to pages that weren't found.  But the stories I read
make this sound very interesting.

   Got a link?

                                               Thanks

You can assign that to any key.  It's on the list where you assign your
brake and gas pedals and such.  Here is another hint.  If you go online
with the default key assignments, Your chatting will be very difficult.
Everytime you type a letter that has an ingame command assigned to it, you
will get doublle or even tripppllle strikes.  The way to get around this is
re-assign all the keyboard commmands to non alpha keys.  So my pause key is
now the right ctrl key.  My restart race key is the right alt key.  My
replay key is on the numerical keypad the / key etc etc,

Ralph Humerich(sp?) is the current master up season updates.  I don't
think he has released a 2003 carset yet, but he has dozens of updates for
the 2002 cars...tobacco etc.  The Ferrari GA is out already.  You can find
many F1 2k2 sites at...

Patch for F1 2002?

it is already out, in Europe at least.  The cars look like they have F1
noses mated to champcars(no airbox protruding behind the driver)
Racing Simulations 3.   I have not heard any reports of unlimited net play.
I would assume F1 Relay might be the place to check into that aspect.
