Nascar 2002 question

by Rob » Sun, 23 Jun 2002 20:41:08

Okay, I've been playing the F1 2002 demo and I'll admit that I have been
really spoiled by the FF in that sim. I just downloaded NASCAR 2002 to give
it a try (after hearing over and over again how great this sim is and how
much more advanced it is than N4).

Well, WOW. This is a great sim as well, however, I do have a
question/concern.   Is the FF in the retail game about the same as the demo?
I have become VERY spoiled by the FF in F1 2002 and I would really like
something similar in NASCAR 2002. The FF in F1 really gives you a sense that
you are DRIVING a car and provides immeasurable feedback.  To me, the FF in
the NASCAR 2002 demo is very "soft," even after putting the setting up to
100%. It also doesn't seem to kick in unless you are pushing into a corner
or hitting a wall. Very little FF for "normal" driving or collisions.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

The FF in N2002 is good. It gives you realistic feedback, but... the thing
is, Nascars are huge, heavy, softish sheet metal monsters. The FF effects of
course reflect that. I.e., if the FF feels strange to you, it may have to do
with that fact.

Another thing is, apart from having to find the proper settings for your
controller in N2002's options screen, changes to the car's setup will also
(and realistically so) change the FF effects you feel. More caster will give
you a stiffer steering wheel, less caster will reduce the forces. Other
aspects of the car setup affect the FF as well, which is very nice as it's
realistic and gives you excellent feedback on what the car is doing, and
which effect your setup mods have.

It does, however, take more time to find all that out, and then to learn to
interpret it correctly.

I don't remember what the FF in the demo was like, therefore I can't really
answer your question as to whether it's different from the full version, but
if you're into realism, N2002 is your sim.

Sounds like you are looking for arcade levels of ff, N2002 is about realism(or as good as they can
get), sounds like the open wheel sim is exaggerating the ff immensely.

realism(or as good as they can

Actually, that would be a no on both counts. I am very interested in
simulation and not arcade, and anyone that drives F1 2002 can tell you that
the FF is the best there is.

I will, however, take a look at the suggestions offered by Sebastion and
Joachim as that sounds like what I need to improve the sensation.

I still say the most improved *** experience with FF goes to GPL.

I couldn't drive GPL, period, until FF came along.  It totally morphed that
game into a completely different animal.

Agreed, in GPL FF made a huge difference, especially since it had been
really well done, which at the time was not at all common.

Still, have you ever tried driving N2002 without FF? :-)

I'm the exact opposite.  I'm ALWAYS behind on my steering in GPL with FF on,
yet I can't play any other game without FF anymore and feel comfortable at all.
I guess it's just my style in GPL that involves a lot of gentle opposite lock.

Nascar 2002 question

Hello Group,

I have Nascar 4.  Is Nascar 2002 enough of an improvement to merit an
upgrade?  Bearing in mind I'm not American, so I couldn't care less if the
2002 season and driver line up is represented or not...

TIA

Yes, it's worth it. And if you wan't multiplayer, noone is playing N4
online anymore.

IMHO Nascar4 is better driving model (slightly). N2002 does have a couple of
nice touches namely Darryl Waltrips (just off the cuff)driving guides and
best line indicator.
Helps quite a bit to bring you up to speed.

Sound is better too. Mostly a patch costing many bucks and like Olav states
if you want to ran online there's only one thing to do.

If offline is your thing, not worth the upgrade.

You are the 1st person I have seen to say that N4 had the better driving model....If you truly feel
its just a patch than you are missing out on an awful lot.
