AI Percentages in NR03

Bear with me if this gets confusing.  We are setting up an offline league in
NR03 where you drive and the other league members (6) are driven by the
computer along with 'real' cars to complete the field.  We then average 'your'
points in everybody's (human and AI) races to get 'your' averaged points for
the weeks race.  Make sense so far?

We set all of the league members cars to identical 'ratings' in opponent
manager for the AI driver.  We test them out to see that everyone is
competitive.

Now, the question...  We just want to be sure how things work.  Lets say a
driver has a rating of 92% for short tracks.  The 'AI Strength' is set at 90%
in the race set-up screen.  If I understand correctly his 'rating' then becomes
82% on short tracks?  (.92 x .90 = .82)  Is this how it works?

Yes. sounds interesting. Can't say I have heard of anything like it before.

I'm not sure if the thats exactly how it works since the AI ratings are a
range not a single number.  However I think your in the ball park. I had a
car set that had the ratings turned down so that you could run at a higher
AI settings to avoid some of the odd AI behavior that happens at the lower
AI settings.

Yeah, the league setup worked pretty well last year.  We are just a bunch of
amatuers (actually a couple of the wives got in,) who are in it for the fun.
Last year worked fairly well-except the 'league driven AI' were not quite as
competitive as we would have hoped.

This year switching from NR02 to 03 there is a major difference.  Last years
settings in NR02 are way off for NR03 so we are trying to adjust.

Thnaks for the reply.....

I enjoy racing off-line but really don't mess with driver rating #'s.
Usually only adjust the AI. Do you find changing the ratings gives you
better racing? What numbers are important to change?

It all depends on what AI percent you run. If you run offline with an AI %
of 95 or below you can help some of the annoying AI behavior be tweaking the
AI ratings down which then allows you to run at a higher AI% in the race set
up.  Basically this is a work around for the short comings in how papy
scales back their AI speeds. I really don't know the exact reasons behind
it, but it does work.

What we are actually trying todo is adjust the AI ratings only on our other
'league' cars which are driven by the AI as you drive your 'human' race.  We
try to make the compettitive but not overly so,  to have good racing and allow
them to actually garner some points as an AI car.  That make any sense to you?

It took a bunch of laps and adjustments and trial and errorbut we think we got
it...
