NR03-Adaptive or Auto Adjust AI??

by TlgtrPr » Mon, 02 Feb 2004 01:25:39

Could someone give me an idea what these do?

I am pretty sure I understand the Adaptive.  It slows the rest down to your
elvel/speed, but as you get fast enough to get the lead-they get faster too.
So while the 'racing experiance' is better for a novice like myself, it is vary
hard to win the race.  That sound about right?

The Auto Adjust from what I understand...  Adjusts the field to your skill
level after each race.  Does it adjust for the next race (different track) or
does it keep track by race track and only take effect when you race the
particular track again?

I have seen a couple of post's in the past but never paid close attention, and
my search skills have yeilded nothing......

Thanks in advance for any advice you ma give.

So it really doesn't do anything for you on a track you only race once?

correct, I usually set the AI a little higher for the first race, then once
you have completed it it will auto adjust for how you did in that race.  70%
is slow enough my ten year old can race with them.  :)

Adaptive AI speed:

The AI cars will speed up and slow down based on what your doing during the
race. For example if you spin out they will slow down till you catch up. If
you get way out front they will speed up to catch up. While it sounds ok the
effects are really to drastic to make it fun. For example if your out front
they will speed way up to catch you, and most of the time they close so fast
they will end up wrecking me going into a corner. I would not recommend
using it except for below (*).

Auto AI:

Auto AI keeps a skill setting for each track. The intent is for offline
championships. In the past with a single setting for the whole season most
people would kick arse on the super speedways, but get their buts kicked on
the roadies. With the auto AI enabled you could run a season with each track
at your skill level, be it 105% at the plate races and 80% at Sears Point.
They weak point is this requires you to run a few races to get your AI
settings built up from the default of 70% which can be a PITA, or boring at
the very least.  However you can edit some files to speed this process up.
In each players record ini file the first line for each track is the auto AI
setting. You can edit this value to what ever you want. I usually take mine
up to 95.000000 as a starting point.  You won't have the line until you run
at least one race with the auto setting turned on. You can add it to the
other track sections once you have one to copy and paste. Also you'll need a
lap at each track to get a lap recorded, but unless your starting with a
fresh install you won't have to worry about it.  (*) If you do actually race
the races to adjust the auto AI setting using the adaptive option will build
up the AI% faster than without using it.
