I dont have any idea about NFS:5, I was just commenting on the whole dash
issue with games in general.  You may have a good point about the frame rate
issue though

I allready drove it in the engineering mode, how the hell do you make
a 360 spin in this monster?

Very quickly! - accelerate to the cones & handbrake it.

If you are not going fast enough it won't spin right around. You can't
"supplement" the spin by dropping down to first & hitting the power either.

This is the least realistic bit IMHO. Not that I have ever done 360s for
real though - no doubt someone here has :)

I am having that same problem right now. I can't get enough speed
in the allotted time, and the hand brake usually gives me a 180 or
less.

I'm stuck!

I finally did the 360 at 3 am this morning
hehe
spent 2 hours trying to do it
get up to speed
quickly turn right with the hand brake
now once the car has gone half way
quickly turn left and stay on the brake
finally the car while have completed a 360
and step on the gas and go
I can only do this 3 out of 10 times
:)

I noticed that at high speed  a 360 is easy, but the distance from
the, ehhh... how do you call it, that plastic thing you have to drive
around... to the turn zone is way too short to get enough speed...

This is a major pet peeve of mine -- developers seem to think that we
LIKE looking at a dashboard rather than the road.  As a "sim racer," I
DO enjoy SEEING a dashboard, rather than arcade-like heads-up displays,
BUT I don't need to see UNDER the dash as well.

Case in point:  N3 -- you not only see the TOP of the dash, but you can
also see the BOTTOM of the dash, and THEN some real estate inside the
car BELOW the dash.  Gimme a break!

Typically, the bumper-cam gives the best sensation of speed, but the
dash is necessary for that "in-car" sim racer feeling.

Best compromise:  DTR -- if you pay attention, you'll see that there are
not one but TWO in-car views in DTR; one with a "normal" in-car dash
(read "high" dash/hood), and one "low" in-car dash view (with the dash
pushed to the bottom of the screen for maximum forward visibility and
enhanced sensation of speed).  This was included by Ratbag at my
suggestion </blowing my own horn>, and I wish more developers would show
this level of attention to detail.  (Ratbag has included a VERY nice
"in-car" view in Leadfoot, BTW.)

I like the in-car view in NFSPU from an aesthetic standpoint
(nicely-done), but if I REALLY wanted to see ALL that much of the dash,
I'd visit a dealership and just sit in the car for a while.  Now, if I
were to take one out for a test drive, you can bet that the ROAD would
receive more of my attention (and focus) than the dash, regardless of
how nice the gauges/dials/wheel/dashboard were.

I think GPL's "in-car" view works very nicely, BTW -- open-wheel sims
seem to keep in-car dash display low, which helps a lot with visibility
and sense of speed, IMO.

If only they'd figure out that this works well with "conventional" car
sims, too.

Just my $0.02.

No problem -- I've always been one to risk my neck with bold statements
like this! <G>

In fact, back when Viper Racing was new, I boldly stated (and still
maintain to this day) that it does as good of a job simulating a
high-performance, modern front-engine, rear-drive sports car as GPL does
of simulating 1967 F1 cars.  The fervent GPL-o-philes phlamed me
mercilessly for making such heretical statements, but I stood my ground
then, and I will now with regards to NFSPU (assuming, of course, that
the final version contains as much inherent goodness as I saw present in
my brief sampling).

;-)

You think a single 360 is hard, I've gone past Chief Test Driver
already.. There's one course where you have to do a 180, drive in
reverse to the next cone box, do another 180 to get facing forward
again, do a slalom, do a 360, then pass the finish line...

I don't know how accurate it is in the game, but in real life you need to
change your steering halfway through, and play with the handbrake.  If you
don't, you do a 180.  If you do, you do a 360.  If you're really slick, you
can do double 180s.

1. drive fast straight ahead
2. jab the steering right and pull the handbrake
3. as you rotate towards180, change your steering to left and (perhaps -
depends on the car) release the handbrake
4. as you rotate towards 360, straighten the steering, (release the hb if
you haven't already)drop a gear or two, jump on the gas and smoke away with
a big grin on your face

If you straighten the steering at step three, you can drive backwards, then
steer left when you want to do the other half of the 180

Don't forget to take your foot OFF the gas as you use the handbrake, and
don't touch the gas again until you are completely around (you'll have to
steer opposite halfway around).

In order to do a 360 you have to turn right and hit the handbrake, then
halfway around you turn the wheel back to the left.
