Can you mention some of the bugs you encountered? Played it for about
4 hours yesterday, not a single bug whatsoever...
I don;t agree with you saying it's the same thing as NFS4, it's much
better imho. The graphics are even better, car handling is much better
and more realistic than in NFS4, and the ability to buy new parts and
tweak the car adds greatly to the playability.
I never really liked NFS4, allthough it's a good arcade racer, I got
bored with it pretty soon. I think I will have fun with NFS5 for a
long time to come.

And it was a huge download :)

I do think the warez version is the final version. Just read your
review, and all the bugs you described are not there in my version.
Also all the tracks are available in the warez version.

I don't like it too much. I don't feel the speed. In fact, I can tell no
difference in speed driving one of the old cars at 80mph or one of the
faster ones at 140-150mph. It is awfully pretty though.

Everybody his own opinion, but I disagree heavily with you here. In
the old 356, you indeed don't feel to much speed, but yesterday I
drove a Boxter through heavy traffic, followed by cops who are much
smarter now than in NFS4, and I had quite some scary moments,
definately a feeling of speed!
Don't forget to upgrade your car in career mode, that also speeds up
the car quite a lot.

Andre, this is a bit off the topic, but I was really interested in how this
title looks and sounds. I'm not a big fan of the NFS series, but I drove a
356 for many years (356A Coupe), and the idea of having one to play with on
the computer is intriguing, although if it doesn't sound right or if the
dash isn't correct, then I'll pass.

Dash is pretty darn realistic for each car and the engine sound,
particularly exterior sound, is *perfect*.

I owned a '53 356 , and have driven a lot of them through the
years including a lot of time in my son-in-law's twin-turbo 930 .. :)

The only problem is that the sense of speed is somewhat low. Other
than that, this is a GAW-GEOUS title and a steal for $29.99 at
www.ebworld.com .

BTW, the driving physics, while not perfect are a *lot* better
than the previous NFS titles. The AI is also much better and
no longer swerves back and forth to keep you from passing.

The cars are beautiful and the tracks are beautiful.  The only
let-down for me is the piss-poor (IMO) rave / hiphop music.
I think you can play your own CD's with it though.

If you like Porsches, as I do, my advice would be to pre-order it
real quick. It will ship next week.

Well, couldn't have said it better actually. But rrevved, you are the
second one to mention that the feeling of speed is too slow.
I noticed that, just as in most driving games, when driving with the
bumper cam you have a real sense of speed (go get that Boxster and
drive through heavy traffic), but from the dash view the speed looks
much slower.
I don't like the dashview by the way. In a real Porsche, your head
surely must stick out above the wheel? In NFS5 half of the screen is
filled with the dash!

Turning the music off was one of the first things I did by the way.

Yes, it seems like too many games want to prove to you that they can give
you a realistic looking dash, so they take up half the screen showing it to
you. I guess they think that we will be "Oh, Wow, realistic looking dash,
now I feel like I am driving a real car".   I am like you and I would rather
have just a little bit of the dash showing down at the bottom of the screen.
After all, when I am driving my real car, I do not even notice my dash
unless I specifically look down at it.

I think they do it because it's an easy way to get the frame rate up,
by filling large areas of screen with static dash instead of moving
graphics. If it's no gpl physics wise then how does it compare to
Viper Racing ?

FYI, the dash is NOT static, and, like in most games, you suffer a
frame rate hit when you use the dash view, versus using the "bumper
cam" view.  The dash overlay almost ALWAYS gives you more overhead,
rather than less, which is why the "bumper cam" view is usually best
for people with mid-to-low-range machines and/or graphics cards.

As for the physics, imagine if you took the Viper Racing physics, added
NFS-type tracks, and then modeled Porsches . . . get the picture?  <G>

Also FWIW, I feel bold enough to say that NFSPU may do as good of a job
modeling the various types of Porsches as GPL does modeling the various
types of 1967 GP machines -- it feels THAT good, based on my recent
brief encounter (it definitely feels close to Viper Racing in the
physics department, if not an out-and-out equal, IMO).

Thankfully, I get paid before NFSPU will be hittnig the shelves . . .
and EA has TRULY earned my $$ this time out, I believe! <G>

Looks like I'll be picking this one up instead of F1-2000.

Just a few questions if I may...?

The career mode (?) where you earn money and upgrade your car/purchase
new ones, from what I read, the tracks are more point to point rather
than circuit. Is it a who can get from A to B the quickest earns the
$$'s kind of deal?

How extensive are the upgrades available for each model?

Do they have any tracks at all? Call me old fashioned, but I like to
race numerous laps on a circuit rather than through countryside...

The graphic comparisons between F1-2000 and SBK2000 have seriously put
me off buying this, I still get a WOW factor racing Monza on a
Superbike, the graphics are STUNNING, the movies I've seen of NFS5
also give me a slight woody.

Last 2 purchases have been EA sports purchases.. SBK2000 and Tiger
Woods 2000, should I expect some sort of metamorphis if I pick up NFS
this Friday? Is this truly the end for me?!

Cheers,
Rod.

I tried the bumper cam setting and you are correct. I get a much greater
sensation of speed with this view as opposed to the dashboard view. After
messing around with this game a little more, I find myself liking it better.
