CPR Racing, My opinion

I tried the Demo of CPR.  I liked the game, But the Car didn't
seem to be planted on the ground on the Straights,  especialy the
straight  leading to the corkscrew.  The slightest move on the steering
wheel caused the car to skate uncontrollably. I couldn't Keep the car
going straight no matter how I tried to correct the steering. It would
just slide form one side of the track to the Other.  I found it almost
impossible to place the car consistently in position to make the
corkscrew turn. I tried to set the "linear" Steering.  With the setting
set all the way to the left the car was completely undriveable  I ended
up setting it all the way to the Right.   I play GP2 , ICR2 Without
driving aids.  Certain tracks on ICR2 exhibit the same feeling but not
to the extreme that CPR does. GP2, without Steering help stays planted
on the ground on all straight unless I do something stupid. I understand
That GP2 Simulates F1 cars which are slightly faster and have higher
downforce.  With CPR I didnt feel in control of the vehicle. The
slightest steering  input causes the car to over react on the straight.
I think that The CPR Team should make the steering  Speed sensitive. Is
the Steering speed sensitive? Is there a Speed sensitivity setting that
Ii don't know about?  I use a GP1 wheel 200mmx, 40 Meg of ram, ati
video.

As for the frame rate, They really need to work on it.  With all
of the graphics turned on,  it almost turns into a slide show.
GP2 has a crappy frame rate with all of the graphics turned on as well
but not nearly as bad as CPR.  The AI drivers are
Ruthless.   If any Cart driver where to drive as aggressively as the AI
cars they would be banned for life.

I'm keeping my money until these issues are resolved.  I'll keep
checking this group for opinions.  I see more unfavorable posts than I
do favorable
ones.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Tony

When you say you like the game, there seem to be a lot of "buts"
which I take to mean you don't like it.

I think the game would be great if they started over again and used
a different developer. (Terminal reality are 'Terminal')

Anthony check out The APEX http://www.quiknet.com/~joja for information on
how to configure your steering. Look for the information in the FAQ section.
While your there you might also want to download some setups for Laguna Seca
that will make the car feel and perform much better.

Thanks
John

I guess you must be on the Zone then? Otherwise you would have said
"too busy sailing past the floundering AI, who are 50mph down on speed
and spinning every other lap". ;-)

Cheers!

John, I'm really wondering if you are playing the same CPR that I am or if
you don't bother to read News Posts about how to adjust the AI speed? You
can easily adjust the speed of the AI by editing the CART.INI file. Except
for a few ovals I have not experienced any problems with the AI while
racing. I just did a quick race at Laguna Seca and none of them spun on me
and they were very competitive.

Sorry John, but MS-CART did not enthrall me enough to spend my time
looking for ways around what I perceived as it's deficiencies.
Honestly speaking, if MS/TRI can't be bothered to spend the time to
make the AI playable in the game they are trying to sell me, why
should I?! In any event, the speed of the CCs isn't the only problem.
The main problems are the total carnage they cause with each other and
the way they suddenly slam the brakes on in the middle of the
straight.

Still, as I mentioned before I _really_ do want to like MS-CART, since
there are many things about it I enjoy - if these adjustments can
truly make a difference to the AI performance then I'd love to try
them. Why not send me the .ini file (or whatever is necessary for the
improved AI) and I'll give them a whirl? As the game is still
unreleased in Europe I'll need to wait till I can go over to my mate's
house to try it out, but I'll try a few races at the weekend and see
how it goes. The track I like most is Surfer's Paradise, but would
like to try a short oval also, say Milwaukee?

If you can send the files I'll happily give them a try. Let me know,
okay?

Cheers!

I must agree with most of what you say. How you missed the control
steering with speed option I do not know. It's right above the linear
thingo. Still, I can't understand why the steering is made so much of a
hassle to get right. It's hard for me to tell if it is the steering or
just bad frame rate, but the steering seems very hard to get right. As
you say, at high speed it is almost impossible to put the car where you
want it. And I am a fairly accomplished sim racer. In ICR2 you simply
select Non-linear (I did anyway - even though somehow the manual
suggests linear for wheel users), calibrate, and away you go - no
problems. I don't know if this is a Win 95 thing but I HATE it. Maybe a
cpu upgrade + 3D card will help - and maybe a games card as well.
