OK, now I'm to the point where I seem to have more trouble crashing in the
straights than in corners. Using a wheel (TSW if that makes a difference),
what are the best settings to make the car a bit less twitchy or prone to
overcorrection, etc. I'm mainly wondering about the "linearity" slider and
also the effect of the steering ration in the setup. I've been trying to
slow down the steering by going to a 20:1 ratio -- am I doing the right
thing? Also, does the differential setting affect this much, i.e., too much
lockup? My problems often start just after coming out of a corner.

Aside from all of the potential driving technique errors you may be making,
if you want to "slow down" or dull the sensitivity of the steering, you need
to LOWER the ratio (e.g., from the base of 16 down to 14 or 12 or whatever)
rather than raising the ratio and "tightening" the steering.

Hear, hear.  About time someone said that.  Next stop; brake bias.

Sorry to the original poster.  You're right--I was attempting to be helpful
by using my experience with other programs.  As usual with a Papy sim., I
just plugged it in and it had perfectly balanced steering (for me) from the
get go, so I hadn't actually played with the settings.

>Wrong way round. The steering ratio is not like wheel lock. A ratio of
>"n:1" means for every "n" degrees of steering wheel movement the front
>wheels move through 1 degree. So a 20:1 ratio is less sudden than a 12:1
