GP2 Info on reasons delayed

According to PC Gamer, May 96 issue, the reasons for delay are:

Full car breakups being added.
Smoke being added to illustrate engine blow-ups and wheel spin.
Light sourcing on sand in traps.
Complete Win95 compatibility.   (woooooooHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!)
Individual driver characteristics (i.e. aggressiveness, etc.)

So some of this sounds great, yeah?  But no ***y mention of the 96 car
sets being added.  Still it'll be great to drive against 'aggressive
Senna' even though he's not around anymore. :)

Peace.

(BTW they say it's set for a late May release.  Yeah.  Whatever...)

yeah, well Steve I am told it has been delayed due to the imminence of
the Sony game being released for the PC as well. The latest releae date
I have seen is June 14th (GB)

This has been said so many times, but still: The game is based on the 1994
season through a license-agreement, so no 1996 drivers, teams or tracks will
be added unless Spectrum Holobyte BUYS the right to do so from FIA (which is
not very likely). The only changes to the drivers are that Senna and
Ratzenberger will NOT be in the game.

Yeah I knew this but there were a lot of rumours floating around that they
*were* adding these during the long release delays.

Now *this* I didn't know.  I suppose it's respectful and quite correct
really.  Still it'll be a pity to leave out possibly the most talented man
ever to sit behind the wheel of a race car.

Respect.

Even if F1GP2 was released with the 1996 Car set it would be out of date next year.
Considering this game (sim) will have a much longer shelf life than that I think
they should give it the ability to load a new car set file, which Microprose could
provide every year on the public domain once all the teams/drivers/car-styles were
known.
That way your copy of F1GP2 would always be up to date.
Especially as it's going to be _MUCH_ harder to write an editor for it than F1GP-1.

Any comments?

When the simulation detail level increase it's more difficult to edit
cars to keeps them up to date with the real cars.  If I'm not wrong
in the 1990 season Ferrari had a 7 gears gear-box. Suppose they go
back to that solution next year.  In no way F1GP2 will be able to
cope with it unless there is a configurable parameter called "number
of gears".  This is just an example, I also remember the 6 wheels
Tirrel in the late '70s.  In future simulators a Car Set could be a
separate program and not a simple data file to load into the
 simulator.

Anyway it seems likely that Microprose releases the game with 1994
tracks, so it's already out of date.  Furthermore it seems very
unlikely they will ever release a track editor so the only hope is
that they will sell track packs, as Papyrus has been doing for ICR.

By the way, have you noticed how many people are asking track editors
 for ICR on this newgroup?

I hope that Microprose is considering a 1996 carset for GP2.  I
understand that, at the moment, the foremost concern is to make the game
as playable and realistic as possible.  It would probably be more
practical to release an update with new tracks and cars at a latter date
so that all attention can be focused on getting the actual game right the
first time.  It would be great if Microprose incorporated the 1996 cars
and tracks like Buenos Aires and the Nurburgring and wrote the actual
game in such a way that the F1GP editor-types can continue doing their
fabulous work.

Do you think that Geoff Crammond in one or two months will convert a
game written for DOS in a game for Win '95 !?!

They only want to have full compatibility with the Microsoft environment
(but I think that playing from a graphical OS will be really slower than
palying from DOS)
