NR2003: DX9 or DX8.1?

by bertr » Tue, 11 Feb 2003 00:52:08

Just curious as to whether most here installed DX9 with NR2003 or left
their systems at DX8.1.  I left mine at DX8.1 and the only problems I've
encountered with NR2003 are that I can't get the road courses to load.
I know that's because I have a Radeon videocard.  That particular
problem is supposed to be resolved with a new driver release in a few
days, but I'm not sure whether that "fix" will require DX9 to be
installed or not.

When it comes to DX, I'm very hesitant in upgrading to a new version
unless I absolutely have to.  (If I had a 9700 or a 9700Pro, I'd
definitely go to DX9, but right now I just have an 8500LE.)  So, I'm
curious is to whether you guys made the jump to DX9 or not.

Thanks!

It only needs 8.1.

Confirmed.  And I subsequently upgraded to 9 with no issues running either.

I installed DX9 just for the hell of it.  Seems to be ok.

What version did you have before dx8?  What version before that?  What
version before that?
Every release of DX...at least a half dozen by now, have had users with
real problems.  But the vast vast VAST majority of users clik reboot and go
on *** without a*** of trouble. Best I could figure in the early days
of DX updates was that the guys who had already tweeked their systems
beyond commmon sense were usually the ones who had problems when they
changed versions of dx.  These days with so many hardware configs it would
truly be suprising if there WEREN't conflicts, but the overall impression
I've gotten these days is that upgrading a dx version is a non-problem.

I have a AMD 2100x o/c witha asus a7nx8 motherboard....or something like
that with a radeon 8500. I am using dx9 and WAS using the catalyst 3.0
drivers. i would get strange lockups and kicked back to the desktop. At
first my thoughts were the overclocking. I went back to some old
drivers...6125 I think, and everything is perfect!!!!  On top of that, I
went from 10300 3dmarks to 11000 with just the driver change.

Jerry,

Can you load the road courses with that driver?  Where did you download the
driver from?  ....and what OS are you using?

Thanks!
Bert
