I honestly can't see how you could blame the celeron platform.
I own both an AMD and an Intel system, and the least likely culprit is
the celeron. Firslty, is this video card the original Monster 3D i.e.
3dfx voodoo I? If it is I belive have not updated the driver for a
while, and the company may have abandoned it at DirectX-5 (last time I
checked 8 months ago), and the glide driver may not have been updated.
Now with Win 98 you may have installed DirectX-7 already. If you
bought a relatively new system, it should have a video card that
should be better than the original Monster 3D. What is the main video
card? I'm running N3 using glide and a voodoo II, but I need to have
powerstrip installed so that I only use the voodoo II for glide, while
my other video card for OpenGL and D3D.
Dd you try running N3 with the native video card in D3D after?
uninstaling the Monster card, installing the latest main video card
drivers, and directx?. If that works, then try installing the Monster
and its latest drivers (you might want to try 3dfx reference drivers),
and reinstall Direct X and see if the game runs under D3D, then test
it under Glide.
