AOpen AX6BC and Celeron 300A trouble...

by Christer Andersso » Sun, 04 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I've just started to build the above puter and cant get it to work. I
have two AX6BC, two Celeron 300A, one 64 MB PC100 SDRAM, two different
PCI graphics card (ET6000 and a Diamond Stealth II) two experiment
around. I have revision 1.00 of the BIOS and have just found out thanks
to a power search at www.dejanews.com for AX6BC and 300A, that I need
the revision 1.1 to boot with Celeron 300A or another P2 to boot with
revision 1.0 and then flash the bios with revision 1.1. I will visit my
work tonight when it's dark and borrow my workstations P2 to boot up and
flash my two MB's. This I consider trouble, not unsolvable, but still
trouble :o|. I went to AOpen's site and read that revision 1.1 includes
"Support Mendocino CPU". I went to Abit's site too and you need the
latest bios for BH6 and BX6 too, to support Celeron 300A, so look out.

I dont consider this off-topic, since I've noticed more and more sim
racers are concerned about what's under the hood and are starting to
build their own machines, and overclocking the Celeron 300A to 450 must
be really tempting :o).

/Christer, having some trouble :o)

AOpen AX6BC and Celeron 300A trouble...

I have now borrowed a P2 233 from work, flashed the first bios, it still
didn't work, but I noticed the P2 sat deeper in the slot than Celeron, so I
gave the Celeron another push, and voila :o). Up and running. So I tried the
same thing without flashing on the other board... I got the display now, but
the MB reported my Celeron to be a 02 MHz... I flashed the bios with the P2,
and then that board worked with the Celeron too. You really need the rev 1.1
of the AOpen AX6BC bios if you want to run the Celeron 300A. If you're
upgrading from anything else than a Celeron 266 or a P2, then be sure to get
the board already with rev 1.1 bios.

/Christer, haven't tried overclocking yet...
