Sound Glitch in GPL

by Adste » Wed, 24 Mar 1999 04:00:00

Now that my Graphics are working fine,  I have a problem with sound being
crackly and cutting out intermitently on replays (fine in the***pit
though)

I have Creative Voodoo2 card and SB PCI128 sound card 96mb ram p2 300
Pentium.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance.

I had problems with my PCI128 as well but someone on here sent me a new
sound.dat file that fixed it.

Sorry that I dont know where to get it but I know the PCI128 problem is not
rare and the fix works pretty good.

You may want to try the following (not 100% sure as I have a SB PCI64):
In Windows 98 go to Control Panel - Multimedia - Audio tab - SB PCI128
Playback - Advanced
Properties - Performance. Then move the Hardware acceleration slider one
position to the left and OK your way out. Repeat if the sound is still
distorted. In my system the slider is on the second position from the left.

Jeesh, when it rains it pours. :)  This is a common problem with GPL
and the SB PCI64 & 128 cards.  I'll just do the old cut & paste from
my other post so you can fix this annoyance.

I quoteth myself from another post:

I have a SB PCI128, which is a very similar card to the one that you
have.  When using GPL, I also noticed exactly the same problem you
describe:  distortion and sound break-up from specific cars.  The
problem is that some of the car sounds are sampled at a different
rate, and the SB PCI cards seem to ***with this.

Luckily, it's very easy to fix.  First try this page for info and
files:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

You don't have to d/l the entire sound.dat file, just d/l the
smaller waves files and place them in your C:\SIERRA\gpl\sound\
directory.

You might also want to try some of the custom sound packages for GPL
that are floating around.  All that I tried work and sound great.
