GPL: Hard drive access (revisited)

I know this has been discussed here some time ago, but I've lost the
thread.

How do you stop the hard drive from thrashing about in GPL.  It seems to
happen a few laps into pracitse and a race. I'm running 19 cars and lots
of graphics on and I'm happy with my frame rate (I don't want to change
these settings).
My system:
PII-266 o/c to 333
64mb RAM
Diamond Stealth II S220
120mb free on the drive I have GPL on.

thanks in advance.

Rob Yates.

Could be many things.

One thing to look for is "Findfast" program running.
Control-alt-delete and look for find fast.
If you find it, look up in the Help how to remove it froim the start folder.

AFAIK, it is installed by MS Office and its job is to halt the
system every few minutes just in case some of your files
might have moved.

As mentioned, remove FindFast from your start group.  Also, terminate
all non-essential background tasks (hit ctrl-alt-delete and kill
everything but explorer and systray). Finally, go to the VROC website
and read the excellent article on memory tweaks by Doc Wynne -
http://gpl.gamestats.com/vroc/tech.htm .

Hope this helps,
